studies show hormones cause breast cancer. Then should hormones be eliminated from cattle feed?

BGH and other growth hormones are being fed to cattle and come through to the cows milk which kids and adults drink. If hormones given to women cause breast cancer, then why wouldn't hormones fed to cows cause cancer in humans as well?

  1. Actually, I have heard not to eat red meat alot since being diagnosed with breast cancer. I think it could be a big factor…..but so are so many other things. You would pretty much have to quit eating, breathing, and living to not get breast cancer. All the research into this is so conflicting. I’ve read that smoking doesn’t contribute to breast cancer but yet they tell you to quit smoking, stress causes it yet stress could keep it from coming. Obesity causes it yet obesity will keep it away…bah, blah blah blah….. I have read all of that stuff. I don’t think anyone really knows anything about any of it. Oh, and soy which is supposed to be so good for everyone, turns out it’s bad for breast cancer too. Turns out it acts as estrogen in the body.

  2. EXACTLY!! That is why alot of smart people choose to opt out of eating meat altogether. They wont stop pumping the animals full of hormones so your safest bet is to not eat the animals.

  3. Not necessarily, but I guess it is possible. There are hormone free dairy options out there.

  4. I think the Women’s Initiatve study about hormones, (estrogen) and breast cancer links do not clearly indicate the correlation between estrogen and breast cancer.

I do feel that eating free range hormone free poultry and beef are probably better for you.

Some women are just plain estrogen dominant to begin with and their diets have nothing to do with it.

  5. Those are NOT the same hormones which are given to women after menopause (estrogens). And again, estrogens given after menopause will help protect the bones against osteoporosis and will promote good heart condition. But, yes they will stimulate the growth of a breast or uterine tumor.
But you are right, these things, as well the chronic use of antibiotics in cattle, should be avoided. And even more so for the antibiotics! Not because they are present in meat (they are mostly undetectable) but because they promote antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria.

  6. We should leave animals to grow normal as the old farmers used to raise these animals at their farms. The demand for meat from everyone pressures these people to make the animals grow faster. It is our fault, we should eat more vegetables and fruits. We do not need milk, we can get the vitamins from other sources. Pigs, Cows, and Chickens are being mistreated because of all of us that demand their meat. It is true that by eating meat we have more chances of getting cancer, especially if it is red meat (not well cooked). If animals are mistreated at their places were they are raised, they get sick therefore we get their sickness when we eat their meat.

  7. Absolutely!

  8. YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Along with preservatives, pesticides and other junk in and on our food.
