I'm 15 and I've just started to lift some weights but I've heard it stunt your growth, do they?
I have had mixed opinions about weights stunting your growth. Some say that it actually stimulates your growth because it helps stimulate turn your protein into Human Growth Hormone. Others say it causes too much tension in your bones and causes damage to your growth plates. I am really confused. I have been bench pressing and doing machine weights such as legg press and ones that help shoulder and pecs etc. Do weights actually stunt your growth? if they do, why? and does proper technique prevent stunting of the growth? thanks in advance x

NO it doesn not stunt ur growth at all. there are no studies that would prove that it might. people who say that are just ignorant about weight lifting and they just figure since ur putting a lot of stress on ur spine from doing heavy lifts that u will become shorter. and ur right it could actually in a sense make u taller because of the excess of human growth hormone in ur body from lifting, yet there are no studies confirming that either but it is definately a better case to make. the only thing that i know that for sure can stunt ur growth is excessive caffeene use. caffeene makes ur body stop processing calcium which ur body needs to grow, so thats my only advice stay away from soda, coffee, energy drinks etc.
