Colon Polypectomy (Colon Polyp Removal)

Colonoscopy is a common and very safe test that examines the lining of your lower intestinal tract. Colonoscopy means "to look inside the colon." During a complete colonoscopy, doctors who are well trained in this procedure (gastroenterologists) can see part of your small intestine as well as the end of your intestinal tract (the rectum). Removal of one or more polyps from the inside lining of the colon (large intestine). A polyp is a mass of tissue that may develop into cancer. Reasons for Procedure To remove a polyp, which is a possible cancer source. The greatest danger with intestinal polyps is their potential to turn into cancerous tumors. Noncancerous polyps are often removed as well, because they can cause troublesome symptoms. Additionally, a physician does not know if a polyp is precancerous until it is removed and examined under the microscope. Most polyps, however, do not cause symptoms, although rarely they may cause: Bleeding (resulting in rectal bleeding) Abdominal pain and cramping Description of the Procedure -- You lie on your side or on your back. A colonoscope, a soft, bendable tube approximately the thickness of the index finger, is inserted through the anus, and slowly pushed through the rectum to the colon. Using the colonoscope, the surgeon locates the polyp (or polyps), and surgically removes them with a wire snare, a surgical laser beam, by burning, or using an ultrasound. The method of removal depends on the size of the polyp. Bleeding during the ...

How can multiple prescriptions be healthy?

I've worked in health care, in a non clinical capacity, for over 15 years. Frequently I review patient records and see that patients are on 10 prescriptions, simultaneously.

I simply cannot see how this can be healthy. Can someone, not on a drug company's payroll, put forth a plausible explanation why this occurs?

What is wrong with our health care?

If you crash your car because you were driving too fast, do you blame the mechanic who changed your tires?

I constantly hear all over the place that our health care is too expensive for the quality of care, or it's hard for lower income households to afford insurance. I wonder though, since when is engaging in unhealthy activities a right?

If you can't afford health care. DON'T DRINK, or smoke, or eat unhealthy foods.

If the doctor tells you you had a stroke... QUIT SMOKING!

If the doctor says your liver has failed... QUIT DRINKING!

If the doctor says you're a diabetic... PUT DOWN THE FRIED CHICKEN!

It seems that people think doctors are these miracle workers who can cure diseases with medicine. NO! The medicine is those new tires that prevent you from wrecking if you are driving the speed limit.

I hear that our nation has the worse health care for an industrialized nation, but I constantly see crap like an obese woman using an electric wheelchair at Wal Mart because she doesn't want to walk. If my legs were tired from exercise, they'd tell me to leave the wheelchair for someone who is handicapped. Obesity is not a handicap, It's a burden.

It is not our health care, it is us.
If you want to complain about health care then start by taking care of yourself, bottom line.

I understand there are certain aspects of health beyond peoples control, but if you get cancer, start eating more produce and less meat and exercise.

Hacking excessive amounts of meats and adding more vege's and beans to your diet reduces your risk of cancer by 40%... Beans are cheaper than meat, vege's are cheaper than meat.

No sense in getting cancer and smacking yourself in bed for the rest of your life causing you to get fat and add a heart problem to your list of issues.

Diabetes prevention and testing

As seen on The Doctors There are over 57 million Americans at risk for pre-diabetes, which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Pre-diabetics suffer from high blood sugar levels, but the amount of glucose is not severe enough to be considered diabetes. Symptoms can be very subtle for pre-diabetes, which is why it often goes undetected and untreated. Type 1 diabetes, which is also called juvenile diabetes because it often occurs in childhood, is a result of the pancreas being damaged and rendered unable to produce insulin needed to process sugar. Symptoms of type 1 diabetes can include: • frequent urination • excessive thirst • unusual or unexpected weight loss Type 2 diabetes develops over time, more often in adulthood, and also results in sugar not being processed in the body. Though the body is still producing insulin, it is less responsive to the effects of the insulin, which leads to higher blood glucose levels. Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include: • frequent infections • tingling or numbness in the hands and feet • unusual blurred vision Screenings are important for early detection and even prevention in the case of pre-diabetes patients. MinuteClinic offers blood glucose screenings that provide results in only a few minutes during your visit. Adults 45 and older should be screened every three years, unless they are at an increased risk for diabetes due to obesity or having a diabetic family member. In this case, they would require more frequent screenings. Featuring ...

Dermatoligists I need advice?!?

I do not have health care. I have nodular acne. I have treated myself with green tea vitamin k and I keep my face clean at all times possible. I still get this acne and it seems some days I cannot prevent it. My mom refuses to take me to a dermatoligist because of money issues. I am trying to convince her in taking me to one. I need to know where I can see a dermatoligist and how much approximatly they will cost? I live in Vermont. I have under the skin acne scars that I have somewhat faded with scar-cream. I want them totally gone and I want my self-esteem back. I need help because although I take antibiotics and keep clean- they still apear and leave extreme scars that are big (about 0.5 in. big). I want to know how they would rid this scar, the price-(remember no healthcare), and a near-by location-thanks! Oh and I am a teenager so I don't know if that effects the price and/or procedure/effects.
