How does your body decide where fat is stored?
I've always thought it was genetics, but I've heard that if you're gaining fat it goes to less exercised parts of your body. For instance, if someone worked out their legs a lot and was eating a lot of fatty foods the fat would go anywhere but their legs and so on. Is this true? How does the body decide where to store fat?
How does one build muscle while maintaining a low bodyfat percentage?
I simply don't understand how individuals accomplish this outside of awesome genetics. I got my bodyfat down to 9% this past summer but I sacrificed muscle mass in the process. How can I build muscle while retaining a low bodyfat percentage?
Diabetes Rates Double in Just Three Decades
Startling new statistics published just weeks ago in the journal The Lancet suggest that nearly 350 million adults worldwide now have diabetes. Still not fazed? Consider this: That count is more than double what it was in 1980. To gain better insight into this often misunderstood disease -- its various types, the causes and symptoms, and the heavy burden (from both fiscal and quality-of-life standpoints) it places on persons living with it -- we spoke with URMC expert and endocrinologist Dr. Steve Wittlin.
How do you prevent stretch marks with muscle growth?
So I'm 14 (15 in 5 days). I figured it would be a good time to start working out. I've got fairly good genetics. My dad's a fucking monster when it comes to muscle size. The only problem is that my skin is getting pretty tight and I'm beginning to notice small stretch marks. How can I prevent any further stretch marks?
Dr. David Samadi – Fox News – Male hair loss
Dr. Samadi discusses how hair loss affects 60 million men and women. Male pattern baldness, or androgenic alopecia is caused primarily by genetics - up to 95%. The same goes for women. Five percent is caused by stress, illness, disease or chemotherapy. Polygenic alopecia means that the trait is inherited from both parents, though it can skip a generation. Thirty percent of men by 30 have hair loss, 50% of men get it by age 50. Androgenic alopecia starts in men as a receding hairline, towards the temples. The most severe kind results in a horseshoe pattern whereby the whole top area of the hair disappears. Alopecia Areata is where the hair falls out in patches. It is temporary, reversible and easy to treat. It's usually a result of poor nutrition, illness, stress or medications like anti-hypertension, beta blockers, cholesterol, coumadin or zantac. The male hormone testosterone DHT actively affects the follicle and can shrink base of hair, resulting in hair loss. Proscar prevents DHT formation and allows hair growth. An ingredient of proscar is propecia which can affect PSA screening results so it's important to disclose this medication to your doctor.

Why isn't my beard (moustache) growing; I'm 21 years old?
Currently 21-years-old, but why isn't my beard growing? Is it genetic or what? Of course, the hair on my head grows and regenerates perfectly well and, uhm, so does pubic hair... LOL... Any are there any drugs, hormone supplements or any product that specifically stimulates the growth of hair, especially hair (but not limited to) on the beard and head?
Further questions you can answer for me, related to this matter, is: Is it a fundamental "error" in the person's genetic makeup. But then what we really want to know is WHAT gene is it? If we somehow target this gene, localize it, and somehow manipulate it in the embryo of an animal (or us human)? And why is our pubic hair so much "thicker" than the hair on our heads?
Silly questions, I know, but it's actually one of the interesting questions posed in the genetics community, such as, for example, why do some people's nails grow longer while others have nails that stay the same length?
NOTE>This question applies to the field of genetics as well as human physiology, therefore I have posted it in more than one area.

How do I get taller?
Basically I want to do basketball. Yes I know its all about genetics, and I know stretching wont help. drink lots of milk, exercise, and have a good diet, but I'm 5'8 with shoes on. I want to grow to 6'0 at least with or without shoes. What can I do? No I will not take any human growth hormones. Advise me some natural techniques if any, or what type of diet I should have. My parents are not tall, they are 5'5, although on my mons side my uncles are all 6'0 tall and higher. What can I do? No I do not want shoes that will make me seem taller. I just want to accomplish this. I'm 16 if anything counts and I hope my growth spurt hasn't already happened because if it did I'm screwed since I didn't grow much. Please advise me.
