POLLS: do you think these sports should be added to the Paralympic Games?

If we truly want people of all sorts of disability to participate in sport - then we should add more categories to different sports?
Such as.....
- Electric Wheelchair synchronised swimming
- Wheelchair ski jump (Winter Paralympic games)
- wheelchair steeple chase

Additional comment: Before all you politically correct, ultra sensitive and easily-offended trolls get on your high horses, I work in disability and have many friends who have severe disability and are wheelchair users. We had a good laugh over discussion like this.
There is a BIG difference between making fun of people with disability and having a laugh ABOUT disability.

Sorry POPEYE, but your suggestion is NOT within the spirit of the joke. Being obese is NOT a criteria for a Paralympian

jobees - fyi,
blind basketball actually exists! Amputees DO go in track events with atificial limbs, so the "hopping" is rather redundant.
Electric wheelchair "murder ball" does exist. My friends play in it. It is actually electric wheelchair rugby league. Full contact sport too! (want more info? - email me) But thanks for some ideas.

Why are people so rude and inconsiderate to people in electric scooters or wheelchairs?

Please enlighten me! I was at the mall for about four hours with my mom, who can't walk for very long due to back pain. We got her one of those big scooters with the basket on it (they are hard to ignore). We spent alot of time waiting for people to get out of the way. Then, to add insult to injury at least a dozen people actually walked right into the scooter she was using (seriously, I kid you not they didn't even say "excuse me" to her). As we were trying to get back to the place to take the scooter, people surrounded her and prevented her from moving for a few minutes. My mother was being polite not to run these people down, even though they sure deserved it.
People get out of the way for mothers with strollers but not for wheelchairs, it's just not right. People in wheelchairs aren't in them to get sympathy; they have feelings just like the rest of us. I would like to thank the two young men who knodded, smiled and said "Hi" to my mom. They really made her day!
Just for the record people in wheelchairs and motorized scooter have the right of way before someone with no disability does. It's the law. Just like pedestrians have the right of way before cars do.
For those of you that have had a bad experience from someone in a wheelchair or scooter I am sorry, but try to put yourself in their shoes/ wheelchair. Having to use a scooter or wheelchair really is not fun. Some of those scooters are really a pain to operate and hard to manuver. I had to use one after surgery a couple of times.

can a restaurant deny service to a wheelchair user?

Probably a lawyer question. Tonight I went to a restaurant / bar that has Happy Hour specials to par take in those specials advertised on their website. I sat at a table in the restaurant area because there are 4 steps up to the bar inside the restaurant. After a waitress took my order, a partner/owner (I think), came over to my table and told me I could not be served Happy Hour specials in the restaurant area (which is in plain view of the bar, only separated by a walk area and the four steps). I suggested he was welcome to recruit 3 other men to carry me up the stairs to the bar area, informing him that the electric wheelchair weighs about 250 lbs, and that I weigh about 200 lbs.. There after he consulted a gentleman (another partner/owner I think), perhaps in the general area for such purpose. The gentleman came back to my table and stated that they would serve me Happy Hour specials in the restaurant area tonight, but not on any occasion in the future. Can the restaurant legally deny me service due to my disability?
"They denied it because the liquor licensing laws did not allow then to serve you in that area." Reply - The restaurant does in fact serve liquor in the restaurant area. They have no problem serving me liquor with my meal, they however will refuse me Happy Hour prices. I am not after a lawsuit, I just want to benift from the lower Happy Hour prices that able bodied patrons do.
"unless you were overly rude and disrespected the owners and disturbed other patrons by shouting you suggestion littered with obscenties". Reply - Absolutley not, I am fairly low key and one of the most polite persons you would ever come across.
"There are laws that say that everything has to be handicapped accessible." I do not expect the business to spend thousand of dollars to make the bar area accessible so I could socialize with other patrons, but I do think it is only fair to be included in the specials.
Forgot the "Reply" above.
Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to reply.

What's the best way to respond to kids who grab my electric wheelchair controls?

Yesterday at the store, a child of 3 or 4 came bounding up to me, grabbed my electric chair control, and rammed me into a store display before I knew what was happening. I pushed his hands away and said no, you can't do that. I know he understood because he argued with me, in very clear sentences, and swatted my hands, as he made several more grabs for the controls. At one point he nearly ran over his own feet. I had to power down and just sit there because my chair is VERY heavy, and if the kid had run himself over with it, it would have caused injury comparable to being run over by a car. Then I waited for him to go away, which took a while because he started smacking the controls to get them to work again. Then he yanked on my feet and dislocated one of my ankles (that's part of my disability, it dislocates easily), and spent some time poking my shoes.

As far as I know, he was unattended the whole time. I finally escaped when he got bored with me and started yanking merchandise off a nearby shelf and tossing it down the aisle. But now I wonder, is there any right way to react to such behaviour? How would you deal with such a situation?
