Oral non-Rx acne treatment?
I'm in college and still have severe acne issues. Topical treatments don't work at all, and my skin is too sensitive to use products that contain benzoyl peroxide (it burns to the point where I can't stand it and HAVE to wash it off).
I've been on amoxycillin for the past 2 years (1 pill, 2x a day) and it worked fabulous, however I now have pretty much no immune system and can no longer be on antibiotics for acne. I am currently on Differin gel, but as it is topical it is not doing much.
My question is if there are any non-prescription pills for acne that I could take. I am taking Biotin and Vitamin E pills as I've heard it helps with skin but I'm not seeing much if any difference. Are there any non-antibiotic pills or shots I could suggest to my dermatologist when I go back in to see him in November?
My skin and hair are also very oily, and skin is very sensitive which I'm sure doesn't help the situation.
Nothing I do gets rid of my acne. How can I control it?
I have never had a problem with acne before, but recently, it became extremely bad, especially on the sides of my face. I don't get deep acne, but rather, hundreds of little whiteheads. And every day, I seem to get more and more. I also think I am beginning to get acne scars on the sides of my face.
I cannot figure out why I'm suddenly having such horrible acne. My mom thinks it's because I wear liquid cover up every day and she says that all liquid cover ups clog your pores. Is this true? Do you think if I stopped wearing liquid cover up, my acne might reduce? I'm also a teen, and my hormones, I know, are out of control right now. (Having a lot of "girl" problems because of hormones too.)
I don't know what to do. I've tried many acne treatments. No over the counter treatments (Clearasil, Proactive, etc) work for me. Then I tried Differin. I had a horrible reaction which resulted in me spending half the night with my face under the faucet. I'm now using Benzaclin, which mildly reduces my acne but not nearly as much as it should.
Should I see a dermatologist? The only thing is, I don't know what they can do to help me.... Because I've already tried almost every acne treatment. My doctor said that a dermatologist could prescribe be antibiotics for acne, but it might cause yeast infections and there's NO WAY I am taking that chance. She also suggested birth control, however, my mom won't let me go on it, and I understand, because I have read about birth control being linked to cancer.
Please help!!
How do I reduce acne and surrounding skin redness?
I am a middle-aged male and have a ridiculously huge (cystic) acne on my neck. I take antibiotics for acne and use a prescription cream at night, but this one was only getting bigger. So at work the other day I bout a clean & clear acne spot treatment which ive used successfully in the past and applied.
Just my luck, it made my pimple and the surrounding area bright red and has been so for over 48 hours now. I have washed the area several times, tried using Visine and icing the area as suggested in other people's answers. I have also tried toothpaste. Nothing has seemed to work.
I wish I could go back in time to when the pimple was the only problem, now the redness of my neck brings even more attention to it. I am not against using some kind of cover-up, but as a guy I have no idea what to buy and am too self-conscious to ask someone (including the people who sell makeup lol) Please for the love of god, someone help!
