Since they don't have to walk, why do people in electric wheelchairs get handicapped spaces?

The wheelchair is doing all the work, so why do they get to park close like people who have difficulty walking?

  1. Because they need the SPACE to get in and out of their vehicle.

  2. Battery life, hills traffic etc.

  3. extra space is needed to get in and out of the car especially if it is equipped with a wheelchair lift
and many need one because they are not in a wheelchair but have difficulty walking without assistance

  4. These spaces generally are wider, with areas next to them where no one can park. This is so they have room to get their wheel chairs out and set them up besides their vehicles.

And since many handicapped folks can walk, but with a walker, they too need those same spaces.

My beef is that there are always far too many handicapped spaces. Have you EVER seen a parking lot where even half of the handicapped spaces are used lawfully?

  5. Because the spaces are wider so they can get their wheelchair out.

  6. They drive too, don’t they ? Would you prefer them wrestling the Power Chair out of the van while they’re parked next to you ? Handicap Parking is designed to accommodate wheel chairs. Why not cut those confined to wheel chairs a little slack. I’m happy to be able to walk around without having to worry about a wheel chair of any description.

  7. It’s a hazard for them to drive long distances in a parking lot, they would get run over a lot more often.

-I’m more concerned with every Black woman I know having a Handicap placard but when they shuffle out of the hoopty they walk just fine.

…EVERY AFRO-AMERICAN SHOULD BE ISSUED A HADICAP PASS AS A DEPOSIT ON BACK WAGES…WHO DO YOU THINK BUILT THE WHITE HOUSE.,THAT’S RIGHT MR SALVE BLACK MAN.

  8. I am a Federal and State registered Disabled Person With Disabilities (PWD). I have a Permanent Handicapped Parking Space State Permit (PHPSSP) which gives me the legal right to park in Handicapped Parking Spaces. I use a quad-cane, a seated Rollator Walker, a manual Wheelchair (WC), and two Power Mobility Devices (PMDs) which is a Power Wheelchair (PMD-PWC) and a Power Operated Vehicle (PMD-POV) which is a 4-Wheel Electric Handicapped Scooter.

The federal Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that a Handicapped Parking Space have a Handicapped Access Aisle that is marked with diagonal lines.

Disabled persons like myself that have a Handicapped Conversion Motor Vehicle with a Power-Lift need to have a Handicapped Access Aisle either on the left side or the right side of the Handicapped Parking Space in order to unload Manual Wheelchairs, Power Wheelchairs, and Electric Handicapped Scooters. Handicapped Conversion Motor Vehicles need room to "drop the power-lift" which the space to do so is provided by Handicapped Parking Spaces that has a Handicapped Access Aisle.

A regular parking space does not provide the needed space to "drop the power-lift" in order to unload Manual Wheelchairs, Power Wheelchairs, and Electric Handicapped Scooters.

  9. So, we can get out of our car. Or some of us have vans that need ramps.
