I found a therapist to go to but how do I know where to start?
I've been to therapy before, and basically my main concern in going to therapy for anger that I have toward my dad for ruining my family because he's an alcoholic, but I also have other issues I'm concerned with like major self doubt issues and negative self talk. But I don't remember how the first appointment goes? Do I just list my issues? For those who go to therapy, what is the first appointment like?

I would start by telling her why you’re in therapy, in this case your anger toward your dad. But you have to know what you want out of therapy. Do you want to ease your anger? Do you want to know how to deal with your dad? Do you want a relationship with your dad? Do you want to better yourself in some way? These are good questions to start with so start asking yourself what you hope to gain from therapy.
Therapists are very good at helping people grow mentally and emotionally. If your anger gets in the way of your fulfilling your expectations of life then this is a great place to start. Tell the therapist what it is about your dad that specifically triggers your anger, and what you can do to alleviate the symptoms. I would search for solutions to the things that impede your psychological growth.
Good luck in therapy, I hope you found a good one!

Don’t worry. You’ll be afraid that you’ll get there and have absolutely nothing to talk about, or forget what you’re going to say. It’s not like that at all. Your therapist will make you feel really comfortable, and give you the chance to say whatever is on your mind. good luck :)

You should start with what really bothers you, maybe a story of a certain situation. You can list your issues and then pick which one you would like to talk about first.
