How to convince someone you need therapy?
I've been very depressed lately. I see and hear things that aren't there. I feel like I have no one to talk to. I've told my parents that I think I have a problem but they won't help me. My father is a physician and he seems to think I just have migraines without the headaches. I don't think that is the case. How do I convince my parents I need help when they think their answer is the right one?

Your options depend on your age.
If you are a minor: talk to your school counselor and tell them what you just said here. The school might be able to force the issue, especially since you are attempting to seek help. Sometimes parents are not willing to listen to their children because they are afraid. However, it is your right to have medical care and their responsibility to provide it.
It is not ok to let a minor go untreated when they are depressed and hearing/seeing things that are not there. The fact that your parent is a physician does not make it ok not to get you the help you seek and he knows it.
Good luck.

Tell them that these problems could lead to suicide eventually. Then, maybe they’ll take it seriously. Don’t say you’re suicidal now, or a doctor could put you in a mental ward for a weekend (51/50). Or, email your parents, and tell them in more detail exactly how you feel! Good luck. I deal w/mental illness, too, with myself, and I’m miserable, but I’m getting help for it. You need to, too. Email me anytime!
