How quick after being exposed to a chinchilla would i notice an allergy?
I just took a chinchilla home on a trial basis. He will be returned if i'm allergic. I am curious how quickly most ppl have an obvious allergic reaction after being exposed? I was horribly allergic to rabbits within an hour or so.

Time duration of allergies depends on the degree of sensitivity. A highly sensitive individual may react in minutes. A person more tolerant but still allergic may take much longer even days. The amount of time you spend around the animal is also a factor. In my experience people allergic to chins usually show it within a few days. I have see people who were allergic to just a specific pet and not others. Guinea pigs affect both a friend and a veterinarian I know very quickly. Yet other animals and birds don’t seem to bother them. Others I have known are bothered by nearly everything.

The people I got my first chinchillas from had an eight year old who was allergic to chinchillas, she got them out of the cage for me and within half an hour she started scratching her hands and arm, it was rather red so I’d say it’d be within the hour.
