How long would it take to die from puerperal fever?

How long would it take to die from puerperal fever? We had a very heated argument over the death of Jane Seymour and I do not beleive that she died of the fever. I think she died from the medical procedures used to extract the baby.

She reportedly died within 12 days of the birth but was immediately bedridden and bleeding.

Since it's a bacteria it should take a certain period to incubate. The infection would be present for awhikle before it became symptomatic.
