How long does toenail fungus last at a young age?

I'm 17 years old and I think I might have toenail fungus. I'm not 100% sure though. My toenails are very orange but that's it. How long will this last and what are some easy treatments?

  1. You will have it for life. There is an easy treatment, Its an expensive prescription, and it takes a long time to cure.

  2. A nail fungal infection may begin as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your toenail. As the nail fungus spreads deeper into your nail, it may cause your nail to discolor, thicken and develop crumbling edges — an unsightly and potentially painful problem. They are the fungal infections caused by minute parasitic yeasts and molds.
There are several ways to treat nail fungus growth and problems with herbal remedies. Soak your feed in hot water or a vinegar solution two to three times a day to decrease infection. Several drops of tea tree oil or an anti bacterial essential oil blend, like "Healthy Folks Essential Oil Blend" can be added to the soak for additional relief. Removing additional bacteria and debris from the infected nails and cuticles is critical. Washing your feed with antibacterial soap when dirty and drying them is critical to stopping an infection. Calendula oil prevents nails and cuticles from over drying and can be used if needed. After this steps you can apply a herbal remedy. A very good remedy to treat fungal infections is Black Walnut Salve. Black walnut is one of the best-known remedies for fungal infections and parasite infestations. Black Walnut Salve is great for athlete’s foot, nail fungus, cuts, rashes, insect bites, eczema…and much more.
Lemon is a natural antiseptic, and it can help start killing the fungus bacteria almost immediately.
Tea Tree Oil is also a natural antiseptic, and it reportedly works wonderfully for killing nail fungus growth as well.
Garlic can be used in oil form directly on the infected nails, or you can rub raw garlic on and around the nails too.
Apple Cidar Vinegar helps soften your skin and remove the dead skin cells, which allows the fungus to be reached and killed easier.

  3. This is from an article about toe fungus home remedies, hope it helps:

30 minute Vinegar baths – vinegar works excellently, but you have to do it without fail morning and night for as long as it takes for your nail to completely grow out. 2 to 3 weeks is not nearly enough – it’s more like 5 to 6 months. You will have to change the vinegar every 4-5 days and the smell is not very nice. It works and it’s cheap, but it’s hard work and takes forever.
Listerine Baths – I have found this home remedy to be the most effective one for mild cases of infection. You just replace the vinegar with Listerine and follow the same instructions. It eliminated the fungus for 2 of my friends that had very minor cases of infection. For my yellow and ugly nail it wasn’t effective.
Decolorized Iodine – You probably haven’t heard of this one, but it’s highly effective. It’s not highly available, I found it at CVS for 5$. Dip a q-tip in the bottle and paint your nail and the skin next to it. Repeat twice than leave it to dry. You will feel a tingling sensation and that’s how you know it works. Sometimes it hurts while applying and the smell is horrible, but after a few weeks of doing this it worked.

  4. Personally, I’ve tried a lot of different stuff over the years. I had dealt with the combo nail fungus and athletes foot for almost 20 years. One "free" thing that did help a lot was vinegar.

It didn’t help much with the nail fungus but it completely stopped the athlete’s foot that I was also suffering from.

For the fungus I tried a lot of different things, including over the counter treatments, vinegar, bleach, tea tree oil, vicks and lavender oil. Some of them did make a little difference but none of them completely killed the fungus.

I also tried lamisil which worked for a while then after a couple of months I had a relapse of the nail fungus. The scary thing with the lamisil is the possible health issues you can face as a result of using it, the doctor had me take a test to make sure my liver wasn’t prone to problems before he’d give me the lamisil… gulp!

In the end what finally fixed my loong term problem with nail fungus was Zeta Clear. I think what also helped is that I made it a part of my daily ritual to use it.

Another thing that I did that probably helped was throw out my old shoes. I have heard that the fungus can live in your shoes and return after treatment. So to avoid a relapse I made sure to get new shoes and throw out the old ones.

    Best of Luck!

I added a link in the source box to a great article that has a some pretty interesting info on toenail fungus and the different treatments you can use, if you wanna check it out:
