How long does a gunshot wound take to heal?

I'm doing research for a novel I am currently writing. My character is in his mid-thirties and in good physical condition. If he was shot in the left arm just below the shoulder by a 9mm handgun, and no bones were broken, how long would this take to heal? Keep in mind, he would not have gone to a hospital--this would have been healed somewhat crudely by a friend of his. Also, would this then leave a scar?

  1. 4 weeks if he is a quick healer, assuming he had a friend who was a ex-medic, gunshot wounds are considered sterile, The if the bullet went all the way through even better, if not you have to find it, bullets can be sneaky and rifle bullets can end up anywhere, 9mm not too bad, Use a gloved hand stick your pinky inside, if its bloody a blood vessel has been hit if it doesn’t nick blood vessels a few throws with inside sutures and a few with outside sutures on entrance and exit wounds. Use absorbable sutures or cotton on inside. If you can’t use sterile sutures or iInstruments the guy is gonna need antibiotics.

  2. If no bone was broken – it would still take 4-5 weeks to heal – should have needed stiches – and would leave a scar –
