How long do I have to wait after taking birth control to have unprotected sex?
I am 16 and have been dating my boyfriend for 3 years and just started being sexually active with him a few months back and I just started taking birth control today, it is the third day of my period. How long do I have to wait before I can have unprotected sex?

The pill is not 100% effective and it is unwise to have unprotected sex with anyone you can not guarantee does not have a STI. You should use both contraceptives.
Also I have no idea what form of the pill you are taking but most require that you take a sugar pill throughout your period. You should take your regular pill after your period ends and a week after that there will be enough chemicals in your body to work as a contraceptive.

you should NEVER have unprotected sex. birth control pills aren’t 100%. your doctor should have told you that. you have to wait 1 week on active pills before having sex. it takes a week for your body to respond to it.

If you started birth control on the first day or your period, you are protected immediately. If not, you have to wait 7 days.
