How long do blisters last for a sunburn?

I have a lot of questions.
Why is my arms and face so tight?
How long will this last?
Are blisters bad or good?
How do I stop my shoulders from hurting, so I can sleep?

  1. I feel for you! I got sunburned about 8 days ago and it was so bad that I developed blisters all over the tops of my arms (and I mean all over). Everyone told me things to use and I tried them INCLUDING Aloe Vera but everything was very short-term. I mean, I couldn’t keep applying Aloe Vera every 10 minutes. Well, the thing that helped me was neosporin. Go buy some from the store and it will be like heaven in a bottle. Wash your blisters once a day with mild soap. Use cool water (not cold but not hot either) and lather the soap on your burns. I could only stand to lather it on with my hands but you can use a soft washcloth if bearable. It took me a good 7 days for the blisters to go away and now, most of my skin has peeled but a few areas are still shedding. The most disturbing thing is I now have red patches of rough skin in some of the areas where the blisters were concentrated the most. They look like scars but the doctors say they should go away within 3-6 months. I really don’t want to wait that long but red rough patches is better than ugly yellow blisters. :) I know you probably feel like you’re dying or like I did, I felt like a freak of nature, but I promise, you’ll be alright and your body will heal itself. Just think of it this way, having those blisters is proof you are healing. That’s actually our body’s way of healing itself from a burn. Hang in there and if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me. I’ve included some pictures so you can see that YOU WILL GET BETTER! :)

Below is one of my arms just 24 hours after I got burned. There was yellow blisters all over and they were grouped together. I felt deformed and ugly. :( Not to mention my arm was SWOLLEN!

Below is how I look now. The blisters and dead skin are gone but a rough red patch of skin remains in some areas. Like I said before. I’ll have these rough patches for 3-6 months. :(

I’ve learned the hard way to take better care of my skin and I’m sure you have too. Hang in there and your body will heal itself. It took me a good week to fully heal.

  2. blisters are bad. That can be sun poisioning which is a reoccuring disease on your skin. Every time you go into the sun it will come back. The only solution for that is to use zinc when in the sun on the spots where the the blisters occured. The tightness is just from the sunburn. Just get a solecaine cooling gel which will relieve the tightness. It will only last for about a week. For you shoulders hurting you can wear the cooling gel and a loose tee-shirt, then take an advil or two before bed. And when you take a shower, use cold water. Hot water will kill. Trust me, i know =]. feel better!

  3. your arms and face aren’t tight. It’s just the skin reacting to the burn. I have sunburn right now. I made a big mistake my popping my blisters… DON’T pop them they are there to heal your wounds. How long it lasts will depend on how bad the burns are and what you use on them. Aloe sunburn relief works very well use that.
if you do happen to pop a blister WASH YOUR HANDS before touching it because it will get infected. Wash the blister and drain all the pus out of it then put neosporin and a gauze pad.
I was in the sun for maybe 4 hours and i have nearly 3rd degree burns but i was in a pool and it was very hot. Yeah sunburn hurts and it will take maybe a week to fully heal.
Also take 2 tylenol or pain medicine about 30 minutes before you goto bed. it helps a lot :]. If you have a tub [unlike me] fill it with moderatly cool water you dont wanna freeze. it’ll feel so much better….
but im unlucky because my shower doesn’t go below hot :(
just to make it worse… i dont have a tub :’[
