It doesn’t turn into cancer. It may cause constant irritation of the cells for many years until your cells start to mutate and it can eventually turn into cancerous cells. It’s a risk factor because of the cellular changes. It doesn’t mean your cells will eventually stop repairing themselves.

An ulcer won’t necessarily become cancer. Call your doctor, if you are worried.

The biggest risk from a peptic ulcer isn’t cancer (although that is possible); there is a possibility of the ulcer penetrating through the wall of the stomach or duodenum and allowing gastric contents to enter the body cavity, or penetrating one of the gastric arteries and causing significant bleeding. Both of those complications are very serious and peptic ulcers should be treated promptly with antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors.

Neither is known to cause cancer but ulcers are known to be painful and bleed. Even if they aren’t painful, loss of blood can cause a number of other ailments, such as anemia, which can lead to still other conditions, sort of like the domino effect. Bottom line, see a stomach specialist soon. I had a bleeding ulcer (from Aspirin). From the time of diagnosis to the end of the procedure took half a day in a surgi-center, not hospital. The next day it stopped bleeding and in two days I was back to work. The procedire was almost painless and condition never returned.
