How long after applying for disability do you start getting paid?
I am 31 years old and can no longer work due to disability. I applied for SSD this morning and was wondering how long does it usually take to be approved, and how long will it be after approval before I begin receiving payment?

If you are approved (75% are denied at 1st application) there is a 5 month waiting period before you can get benefits which are paid on the following month. So if your onset is established as Feb 1st, it would be around July 1st before benefits begin, and will be paid beginning in Aug.

From what they say in ads on TV, a lot of people get turned down the first time. You might have to get a lawyer if that happens to help you.
I think you have to be out of work for awhile before they will consider you, but I don’t know how long. How people are supposed to live that are disabled without working or disability payments is beyond me….

I think you need to see a lawyer, if you are serious about receiving SSD. They’ll have the correct answers for you. And you may be able to have a free consultation, which lots of lawyers offer.
