How exactly does calamine lotion work?
I have HORRIBLE acne on my arms and legs. Like blackheads. Not major pimples. I've always had it. My doctor said it was due to dry skin. I've kept my skin hydrated for years now. No change. Maybe even worse. I do want to keep my skin hydrated, so can I still use regular lotion if I use calamine lotion? How long does it usually take to show improvement? Any other information would be helpful. Thanks(:
I've done all the exfoliating deal. It had no effect.

I just recently noticed that my leg acne was clearing up. I hadn’t done anything differently in my routine. I was still exfoliating with a mild over the counter acne pad and hydrating the skin (I had read the same advice online that you got from your dr.) Well, I couldn’t figure out why suddenly, after all these years, my skin was clearing up. Then it occurred to me that I had added 1000 iu vitamin D3 to my daily vitamins. I really think this is what helped me! This is just my personal experience. I’ve seen nothing online that supports it, but there has been no other change to my routine at all. I was not taking the vitamin D for skin issues, but vitamin D is made in the skin when we are out in the sunlight. Many of us are D deficient even if we live in sunny areas (I do). We are much more inclined to be indoors these days. My whole family is supplementing with D3, my dh is an MD. I’m hoping it will help my daughter lose abdominal fat…http://technorati.com/lifestyle/article/vitamin-d-shown-to-slash-belly/ and http://www1.umn.edu/news/features/2009/UR_CONTENT_165066.html

Calamine lotion dries the skin, so I wouldn’t use it. Sounds like you need to use an exfoliator on your skin and then moisturize afterwards.
