How effective is the male surgery and do they put the guy to sleep during it?

When my boyfriend and I get married, we're planning on getting him fixed asap. He said that was a good idea too. We've seen birth control and condoms fail (aka we know people who accidentally had kids that way) and we don't want it happening to us since we're the type who don't like nor want kids. I just want to know how effective the surgery is for males compared to a condom. And also will they numb him and put him to sleep during it so he won't feel pain?

  1. It is effective, unless there is a problem with the operation he will never have to worry about having kids.
They give you a local shot to deaden the pain, you are wide awake and when you hear the doctor say oops, he is kidding.
Condoms can fail this will never fail, he is firing blanks, they look and feel the same but they don’t have any swimmers.

  2. 100% effective and no he is not asleep but they do deaden the area to be cut

  3. Well I know that it isn’t 100%, they won’t put him under, they barely have to freeze the area.
It is easy, pain free and quick.
That being said it can fail. I know 4 couples who had children after a vasectomy.

  4. Very effective…as are condoms when used correctly. Of course, there is no possibility of "user error" with a vasectomy.

They usually don’t put you under. They do numb that part of the body. There is some soreness afterwards.

Make VERY sure you BOTH agree that this is what you want before you do it. This surgery is permanent, and lots of people change their minds about kids when they get older.

  5. After a guy has a vasectomy there is a small chance of the vas deferens reconnecting which would potentially allow sperm to mix with his semen resulting in a woman’s pregnancy. Although, this doesn’t happen very often, it is a possibility.

  6. Nearly all Vasectomies are carried out under local aneasthesia and usually takes around 15 to 20 minutes to perform. A Vasectomy is probably the safest form of contraception, there are however a few that fail. You should always use another form of contraception until the sperm tests come back negative, usually this can take up to three months after the procedure. You should have at least two negative results before you stop using the alternative form of contraception.

  7. A vasectomy is nearly 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. It is a very simple procedure that takes about 30 minutes using a local anesthetic (he won’t be asleep).
