How does asprin help you during a heart attack?

I've heard from several people that taking an Asprin while they were having a heart attack saved their lives, but they never told me how it helps save you..

Perhaps one of you can tell me the info. Thanks!

  1. It doesn’t. It reduces the chances of having a heart attack as it thins the blood. Whilst you’re having a heart attack, it’s too late. You’ll be thinking about getting to hospital.

  2. it thins your blood allowing more blood to flow.

  3. It’s a blood thinner.

  4. Typically a heart attack occurs when blood flow to a section of heart muscle becomes blocked. Most often the blockage is the result of a buildup of plaque on the walls of the coronary arteries, over time the plaque can rupture and a blood clot will start to form. The combination of the plaque buildup and clotting blood can actually fill or “block” the artery – without blood and the life giving oxygen it delivers, the heat muscle will start to die.
So how does Aspirin become the great life saver?

One of the components of blood, along with red and white blood cells, plasma, etc – are things called platelets. Platelets perform the job of sticking together to prevent a sudden loss of blood. In the above scenario, when the plaque ruptures, the platelets rush together to stop the flow of blood from the rupture – but in doing so end up stopping the entire flow of blood to the heart.

Aspirin thankfully has the ability to reduce the “stickiness” of platelets By chewing a 325 mg aspirin, AFTER you have called 911 – you can have an immediate effect on the clot that has caused the blockage.

  5. It thins your blood and prevents blood clots. but don’t take it without talking to a doctor first. If you are a redhead you already have thinner blood.

  6. Aspirin thins the Blood & breaks up clots
Do not swallow whole – chew them up (2)

  7. Its a blood thinner

  8. Aspirin helps because it helps keep the blood from clotting. It helps the platelets in your blood to not stick as easy. When people have a heart attack it can be caused by there arteries being occluded. Aspirin helps clots not to be formed when the blood is passing through a narrow artery. I hope this helps.
