How do I know when my muscles will recover?

Hi! 2 days ago I did this pretty intense ab workout and my abs are still hurting. Does that mean I should wait a couple more days before I work out again and how will I know when my muscles are completely healed? Yesterday I did an intense triceps, biceps, and chest workout, my biceps are fine, but my triceps and chest are still hurting. Does that mean I over did it or just worked it really hard and also need to give them a few more days rest?

  1. The rule is to allow 48-72 hours recovery time before hitting the muscle again. Really I’d just stick to that – just because a muscle is sore doesn’t mean you shouldn’t train it (http://www.simplyshredded.com/the-best-of-the-best-here-are-20-gems-of-wisdom-you-need-to-know.html)

As for abs, you should be able to train them every other day (they behave differently to other muscles). If they’re a bit sore it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t train them, just that you’ve got a good workout.

    Hope this helps

  2. sore muscles is a sign of doing something new. Therefore, it is not an indicator of a good workout. Keep that in mind.
rest about 24-48hour before hitting same muscle again
