How do I know a cosmetic dermatologist is really what I want to be?

I really love helping people boost there confidence with makeovers, masks, etc. But I also love the human body and the way it works. How do I know that's what I should do?

  1. Its extremely unlikely that you can know for certain this is what you want for a career if you have not yet worked in the field. If this is what you are considering, go to med school, try a dermatology rotation, and if that doesn’t do it for you, select a different medical field. There aren’t many docs that know what specialty they will end up in even when they go to med school with a particular specialty in mind. Cosmetic dermatology is even a sub specialty of dermatology, so you can’t even apply to a program for the specialty until you are actually a dermatologist.

There’s a lot of changes in a person’s interests and life in general that can occur after 4 years of med school school, 1-2 yrs in general residency, and several more years in dermatology residency which then gets you to the point where you could specialize in cosmetic dermatology.
