How do I get in the habit of sleeping less?

I know i sleep way to long, I find myself sleeping 9 or 10 hours a night. Like sometimes my 52 year old father can stay up later than me but be awake hours before me. I'm guessing he slept like 6 hours or so. How do I get into that habit, I feel like I'm wasting my life sleeping!

  1. It depends how old you are – some people just ‘need’ more sleep than others.

According to the chart on the page linked below -

10-17 year olds need ~8.5 – 9.25 hours per night
Adults need 8-9 hours per night.

Maybe your Dad is just a ‘bad’ sleeper – or maybe he just doesn’t need much sleep. I’m 40 and I can typically operate fine on ~7 1/2 hours per night but all people are different.

  2. wake up early and drink lots of coffee in the morning to wake up.
