How come you get colds when you stand in the rain?
For example...
You stand in the rain for 1 hour (waiting for your girlfriend/boyfriend). Afterwards, when you get home, you start sneezing and fevering and all that other symptoms.
However, how did the cold bacteria (or virus, whatever) get into your body ?
Unless there are cold bacteria in the rainwater, there seems to be no relationship between cold and being wet.

The above answer is wrong. There is no such thing as cold bacteria. There are cold viruses, which are completely different.
Being physically cold stresses the immune system, which makes you more susceptible to getting sick.

There is! It’s your nose getting cold that’s the problem.
Your nose doesn’t have great circulation at the best of times. That’s why people who get frostbite lose their nose regularly. Anyway, your nose gets cold. And there are cold bacteria living in your nose, for want of a better term. These bacteria like the cold, and during exposure to cold they multiply. That’s how they get into your system- they’re always present, just not in a huge quantitiy. So crazily enough, in theory, if you keep your nose warm, you shouldn’t gt sick!
