  1. Well I spent Christmas Day (24 hours) doing a water fast. I had planned to do Boxing Day as well, but I found it too hard.

In hindsight, it was a bloody silly day to choose for my first attempt, but I was up for the challenge.

I started to seriously crack-up about 8.40pm on the evening of the 25th and had to break my fast with a mango.

Water fasting is used in health resorts around the world to help heal certain diseases and these professional and supervised fasts can go from 5 – 15 days.

I would NEVER attempt a 5 – 15 day unsupervised fast but I am happy to do a 24 or 48 hour fast at home alone.

If you are going to do it, you must prepare for it for a few days (but preferably a week) in advance, otherwise your system will be in for a major shock and you could make yourself sick.

Basically stop smoking, consuming coffee, tea, fizzy sodas, meat, dairy, sugar, processed flours, etc….and consume only natural produce – a mixture of steamed and raw fruit and vegetables and juiced home-made vegetable juice.

You will most likely go through detox and you will feel like crap. You can’t take aspirins for your headache from detox, because you are also detoxing medications out of your system.

You must also break your water fast gently by consuming only natural foods. If you were to eat KFC to break your fast, you would be sick and the whole exercise would have been a waste of time.

Also fasting on home-made vegetable juices is meant to be better than a water fasting because you are still getting lots of minerals, vitamins and nutrients from the vegetables.

I recently brought “The Juice Fasting Bible: Discover the Power of an All-Juice Diet to Restore Good Health, Lose Weight and Increase Vitality” by Dr Sandra Cabot. It is a very good book and I am following the guidelines.

There are many other similar books on the market, so please get some sort of professional guidance rather than attempting it on your own.

Also once you come off your fast and start eating normally again, you will put the weight back on. Really there are no permanent quick fixes – a healthy diet and daily exercise are the only ways to lose weight and keep it off.

The only reason I am doing these water and juice fasts, is to help heal a health condition, not for weight issues.

  2. That is a bad idea. If you don’t eat, your body goes into starvation mode and holds onto your fat and burns muscle. Cut down on calories. The easy calories to get rid of are sugar and alcohol. Cut down on fats, but don’t eliminate them completely. The best way to lose weight is to reduce your calories while eating a nutritious diet and exercising.

  3. If you’re talking about doing a water fast you’d lose weight and gain it right back after you ate food again. Just cut out the junk food and try to eat healthy.
As to the water, all I drink is water. Since I started doing that weight came off without effort. If its to bland add a slice of lemon or cucumber. Replacing water with sugar filled high caloric beverage will probably help you lose weight. Just make a conscious effort to drink your 64 oz a day.

  4. No not eating would not help, that is called a eating disorder!

The only way to lose weight is to eat sensibly and exercise.
Go and join a gym and see a nutritionist, realistically you should only be losing around 2pounds a week maximum.

  5. I personally would not be able to live with it. I have a low fat body but i can’t live without my daily inhalation session of assorted snack cakes/pizza rolls.
