How can I relieve the severe pain after getting bloodwork done?

It's been several days now and my arm is literally killing me. I can't put weight on it, bend it, or press it without severe pain in my elbow where the needle went in. The same thing happened last time I got bloodwork, and it lasted over 6 weeks. Is this normal, and how can I stop it from happening again? I fear my arm is damaged somehow, and I hope that isn't the case. PLEASE HELP.

  1. since the needle only goes through the surface of the skin directly to a blood vessel below, there is no way your elbow joint should be effected at all.
The needle doesn’t even go straight down, it goes sideways so the actual penetration of the needle is probably less than 1/8 inch or maybe even less.
I am wondering if you tense up so much before the procedure that you are causing muscle tension and end up being your own worst enemy.
it happens with kids and adults who fear injections and of course a tight tense muscle makes the injection hurt far worse than need be if the person was relaxed.
And no it is NOT normal.
I have had hundreds of blood draws over the years and most times it never leaves a mark and certainly does not cause ANY pain, even at the blood draw site.
