How can I receive brain electrodes to treat severe depression?
I have severe depression and have been on medication for many years and are not working. I have just watched a program on TV and this lady received brain electrodes and they worked. Her depression dissapeared. How can I receive such treatment. Does it cost?
I live in the UK.

I don’t know how this tv show made electroshock therapy look like a desirable treatment. I think it’s pretty barbaric. You’re basically frying parts of your brain.
Are you seeing a psychiatrist or a regular doctor? You need to discuss this with a psychiatrist. Electroshock therapy should only be a very last resort- only to try after every other possible option has been explored. There are other medications, and there are other intensive therapies (in-hospital or day treatment) that could help you- and will cause less long-term damage.

Depression is a disease but it is also all in the mind. If you can change the way you think and the things you do, you can fight depression. A lot of people who suffer from depression are often closed in all the time and away from the world. I fought depression just by getting out of the house and being around positive happy people. The secret is you are what you think you are, If you think you are sad and down and sick then you will continue to feel those things. If you think happy thoughts about yourself and find fun things to do that make you happy you will start to feel better. New studies show that medication won’t work anyway. You can spend all the money in the world but you still have to change the way you think if you want to get better. There is hope. It doesn’t cost a thing to smile, you don’t have to pay to laugh. You should seek God if you are not an atheist.

Stop seeking the quick chemical fixes etc and get up early, stay active and find productive activities and in time start benefiting from better quality and deeper sleeps to become mentally stronger. Then the sky will start to become your limit.

There is more invasive surgery, none-the-less this is still invasive and it is still surgery. I imagine that one would have to prove that all other methods had been tried including several medications and possibly ECT. Placement of the electrodes is important and so you would need to find someone who has done this before. Your nearest university hospital would be able to answer that one for you.
