LADIES ONLY: What do you substitute food with when you're losing weight?
For instance I've been drinking coffee alot to curb my appetite - any other good ideas?
Thanks for all the good answers- so far... Most of you gave some really good suggestions...

I brush my teeth a lot. That makes me not want to eat.

That’s not a good idea. You need to substitute regular food with better foods for you. As in no fried foods, etc. You should still eat something just eat healthier foods and smaller portions.

drink a glass of water/green tea before each meal
cut down your portions
chew slower and take your time eating [it really does work]
don’t eat after 7:30 pm
alternate excercises [like a good cardio workout one day and yoga/pilates the next, to let your muscles relax]

its not good to substitute your food with something you need to eat to live so just eat healthier and smaller portions of food or you can use diet and protien shakes or health bars

DO NOT STOP EATING FOOD!!! To lose weight just exercise regulary, watch the amount you eat of food. You could even start Weight Watchers (it really works) Substituting food with coffee isnt a smart idea. Coffee could pro-long weight loss and it isnt good for you if you drink a lot.

water. try finding a low calorie protein bar that tastes good. and brushing my teeth. or even eating a candy cane=)

you have to eat…. just dont eat a lot… of what you do it… so eat smaller portions … and substitute food with better food

I don’t think you wanna substitute foods with things like gum or brushing your teeth. I did that and after 15 lbs I couldn’t lose anything. I started just eating salads and fruit and the way started coming off. I think you just substitute the things you eat now for more fruits or veggies.

DON’T SUBSTITUTE FOOD! it will make u get sick. try eating healthy foods and working out. it might take a while but you’ll LOVE your body! remember: no chocolate!

Fill up on water. It makes you full, and it keeps the food that you do eat moving through the digestive tract. When food is on the move, the less chance it has to stay around and get turned into stored fat. Water, Water, Water!

Too much caffeine is very unhealthy and can cause breast lumps. I recommend chewing sugar free gum when trying to lose weight and quit smoking. It gives your mouth something to do and tastes good… with so many different flavors of sugar free gum now, it is a great way to go. Also, if you are hungry, eat something! Just make it something healthy such as veggies and fruits. You don’t have to feel guilty if you eat half a bag of carrots as opposed to potato chips. And if you just reallly need something bad for you, and only if you think you can control yourself, eat just a small amount of what you crave! Sometimes the only way to get rid of a craving is to satisfy it, but in moderation.
And remember.. you have to exercise to keep your metabolism up. If you take away the food without exercising your body will store every little bit of fat you consume and you will get nowhere!

i did a diet 2 and i tried substituting foods and it didnt help at all. i just stop eating breakfeast,eating a ritz crackerwith cheese for lunch, and having a salad for dinner. it works and it helps u stay fit. u should also work out it helps alot. dance dance revoloution helped me looses ALOT of weight . and my stomach has muscles now! GOOD LUCK!

i don’t substitute nothing i still eat real food but in moderation and I exercise exercies constantly
instead of a big hamburger meal i get the kids meal
i eat more chicken and fish
but most of all i exercise and i don’t deprive my self of food . Because when u do u will eat more and unhealthy. Also try and eat in a quiet space the more nose u have the more u will eat no tv while eating dinner eat at a table and in room with no noise, and eating at table will make you feel full and then u won’t eat all your meal etc. you’ll eat it later or the next day. Depriving yourself without food will only make you eat more and lose the battle on trying to lose the weight. quit drinking coffe so much have lil nutri grain snacks , bowl of fruit, pretzels the lite brand, there are ways of eating healthy and small portions when losing weight . Go to Oprah.com and she’ll give you list of meal options when losing weight , but most of all EXERCISE

caffine, such as coffee and especially soda is horrible to drink when you are trying to lose weight. if its plain coffee it might not be so bad but usually, especially in women, its not, its always lattes or mochas or whatever have you. the calories in a plain white chocolate mocha alone would definatly surprise you. and soda is bad because it retains fat. all you should do is cut out any fast food or junk food, chips, candy etc, and soda and coffee, and eat regular food. you dont have to be a health freak. just eat good food when you really are hungry. and drink a lot of water or real fruit juice. that will help curb your appetite and fill you up without adding any or very many calories.

You can subsitute junky food with fruit and vegetables, but if you can not live without the junkfood try healthy foods that have chocolate in them or just taste good.

Eat a half a grapefuit before every meal. They have something in them that is suppossed to curb your appetite.
