measuring blood pressure

How to measure blood pressure with electronic syphagmomanometer, through this you can measure it at home, just remember you need to measure it in left hand and take care of all points as shown in the video.

  1. i have 2 comments-first your arm should be resting comfortably and not be in the air. Secondly the blood pressure should be taken on both sides in hospitalized patients-many nurses or doctors don do this but it can help pick up serious conditions like coarctation or aortic dissection etc. In the past they used to use the sphygmomanometer to determine ejection fraction by inducing valsalva, if you’re interested I can tell you how it is done.

Thanks for adding valuable information, yes we would like to see that, please do upload a video of it.

  3. basically valsalva has four phases. phase 2 is straining and phase 4 is relaxation. If you inflate the bp cuff to 15-30mmHg above the patient’s systolic pressure, then ask them to induce valsalva, you should NOT hear korotkoff sounds UNLESS the patient has severe heart failure. A very nice paper by Michael Felker, MD was written on how to precisely quantify ejection fraction by this method at the bedside in The American Journal of Medicine (2006) 119, pg 117-122.

  4. my bp is 105/65. Is this too low?

no its normal, if your systolic bp is less than 100 and diastolic is less than 60 than it is said to be hypotension.
