will doctor give me accutane on my first visit?
I have never been to a dermatologist before and tomorrow will be my first time going to one. I have been dealing with on and off again acne since I was 14. I have had every kind of pimple in the book, cystic, white heads, black heads, nodules, you name it, Ive had it. It wasn't until recently and i would say about two months ago that I started breaking out worse than I ever have in my life.
I am now 18 and have acne like a 13 year old going through puberty.
I'm so sick of dealing with this problem and I just dont want to have to deal with it while going into adulthood where I would like to go to school, and start a career and live my life. Lately, I have been getting severe acne and just one after another, after another. Mostly every part of my face right now is covered in either a scab/scar from a pimple or just a plain pimple. I feel like every morning I wake up, there is a new pimple on my face. I am hoping that tomorrow my doctor will see my skin and the massive amounts of marks and pimples that my face has and will instead of prescribing some worthless cream, will prescribe me accutane so that I cant fight this and rid it for good.
I've tried practically every type of product on my face, ProActiv, Acne Free, Neutrogena, Clean & Clear, Philosophy, Biore and I am currently using St. Ive's, which I found worked for me tremendously before my breakout and has now suddenly not worked for me like it use to.
I know a friend of mine who is on doxycycline and her results looks great, although her acne wasnt as bad as mine is now. I considered that and thought it would be a good idea but after watching all these videos on youtube of people filming their accutane diaries and noticing how their skin isnt even remotely as bad as mine is to begin with and then seeing their results and how they praise the stuff up and down. It's only made me crave it even more..
so my question is, after all this ranting, is do you think the doctor would prescribe me accutane even though this is my first visit to him?
I'm so frustrated cause I had gone and he prescribed me minocycline and it isnt working at all and ive been taking it for three days and am religously using the damn duac and retin a. NO RESULTS. it just makes my pimples less red but i dont want pimples AT ALL.
also, it's doing absolutely nothing for my scars and dark spots from previous pimples.

it is possible that that your dermatologist would get you started with the process of obtaining accutane on your first visit. he could not prescribe it to you on that day, however. this is because you will have to be registered with the ipledge program before you can take the drug. i know there is a thirty day wait for females before they can get accutane because they must start using birth control a month before they start taking the accutane. i’m almost positive that there is also a waiting period for males, but i think it’s just until the ipledge registration is complete, so it would most likely only be a week or two.
my dermatologist brought up accutane right away at my first visit. he checked my history of medications and saw that i had tried several antibiotics and creams for acne that my regular doctor had prescribed to me. if you haven’t used any prescription medications for your acne, the dermatologist will most likely make you try antibiotics or something first for insurance reasons. accutane has many potential severe (but rare) side-effects, and that’s what makes it so difficult to obtain.
anyways, i did start the registration process with ipledge on the day of my first appointment and started my course a month later. i’ve gone from having painful, severe acne to just having a few whiteheads on my cheeks. the only side-effects i’ve experienced are dry lips, dry skin, dry nose that may lead to nosebleeds, and occasional joint/back pain. these can easily be dealt with by using vaseline or aquaphor on the lips, using a good moistuizer, using a saline nasal mist, and using ibuprofen for pain when necessary.

Not necessarily. There are dozens of options. Accutane is only one of them. You might get accutane. Odds are they start you on something more mild first. But it just depends. If it was all the same for everyone, you wouldn’t need a professional dermatologist in the first place. They diagnose individually.

certainly not. accutane is a lot of work. u must go in evey month for blood tests. ur case of acne sounds intense. my dermotologist perscribed me some pills, face wash, and topical cream for my first time. after about 6 to 8 months if ur not clear they will use accutane. be prepared to pay like 125$ for the stuff if acne stuff isnt insured under ur coverage.
