What should I do? Please answer!?

I started getting acne when I was about 13, 14 years old. I'm now 17 and over the years I've been given numerous medication such as Retin-A Micro, Benacyclin, Tetrycyclin, some pills that I cannot remember the name of, and also some pads called Tazorac or something like that. The Benacyclin helped a little with stopping breakouts but, it didn't help my scarring. My dermatologist mentioned Accutane as a suitable treatment for me but, I didn't want that because I've heard it doesn't get rid of scarring. I went a few weeks ago and had microdermabrasion done and I've been on a 3 step system called Obagi for a month now but, I don't really see any results. I am supposed to have about 5 more microdermabrasion sessions and they said maybe a chemical peel. My question is: Should I go on Accutane or continue the microdermabrasion? I want to keep my acne under control but, get RID of scars too; home remedies do not work for me.

  1. have you tried tea tree oil??? if that doesn’t work, then you should see a dermatologist. But remember that appearance should come after health, and all the meds you’ve been taking could affect your health later in life.

  2. Hey there, I am in a similar situation as you. I’m also 17 and have fairly bad acne, I think it runs in my family. First of all, are you female? Because if you are and you have irregular periods this can contribute to severe acne. That was the case with me at least. I went onto birth control and it did WONDERS for my skin. Also, I am on the http://www.acne.org over the counter regimen which has also proven to give amazing results. Not to mention that I apply Zeana at night for my acne. Anyway, this combination has completely cleared up my skin! Although, I do still have hyperpigmentation from old acne becuase I’m brown-skinned. I’m getting microdermabrasion done for this to hasten the process of healing, and it’s working slowly but gradually. Anyway, I’d give some of the stuff I’m on a try like Zeana, the http://www.acne.org regimen, birth control, and microdermabrasion. However, if your acne is really severe, and not caused by hormones, I’d totally recommend Accutane. I’ve heard that it can clear up even the worst acne cases such as cystic acne. So if all else fails, go for Accutane to prevent further breakouts and scarring, and do chemical peels/microdermabrasion for acne scarrs. Good luck! I truly wish the best for you becuase I had horrible acne since puberty, and it has finally begun to clear up! I wish the same for you!
