What is the best way to clear up facial acne when you swim in a highly chlorinated pool EVERY day?
Heyy,
I'm a high school girl who is on the swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo teams at school, so needless to say I spend A LOT of time in a highly chlorinated pool. However, on top of this I have a good amount of facial acne and the chlorine is not helping.
Does anyone have a good suggestion for reducing, or hopefully reducing my acne?
I have oily skin so I think my acne is getting trapped under the skin because the chlorine is drying it up?
Any facial wash combinations with cremes or remedies to clear would be much appreciated.
And do facials or "intensive masks" actually work? do they remove all of the acne and blackheads?
thanks in advance!

The clorine will actually help your skin, but the main thing would be to wash your face before hitting the water to remove any make up your wearing, and after wards to take a shower if possible or at least wash your face to reopen the pores and clean them out from all the contaminents in the water. And try not to apply any creams or make up for the rest of the day to let your skin breathe and see if the acne clears up some. You might even want to speak to your doctor about going on or changing birth control, my wife had problems with acne until she changed birth control.. and now her horomones are leveled off so she doesn’t suffer and neither do I.

I found when I was younger that chlorine actually helped control my acne if I washed my face well before going in. Always wash with warmest water you can handle so that your pores open when washing.
Good luck!

There are a few things you can try.
1. Oatmeal baths before AND after practice/game
2. Toothpaste overnight, let it dry before going to bed.
3. ACUECLEAN, but not sure how it would react with the water. It is also pretty expensive
4. Lemon juice AFTER water.
I hope one of these will work for you. They are NOT overnight cures but they do work!!!

I would say the same way as you would without the water. I personally use a system i found at my local drugstore. There’s a face scrub, a toner, and a moisturizer. I think that even with oily skin, you should use the moisturizer because chlorine does dry you out, and your skin is overcompensating. You may have to experiment with different products before you find one right for you. If you can’t find one that works, talk to a dermatologist about prescription strength medication, because it is a medical condition.

Well the best way to prevent it is to use non-oil or oil free based products to wash your face as well as using cold water when you rinse your face. But try not to wash it too often it can cause irratation and dry skin.

The only thing I can suggest you to do is visit your GP and see if they can prescribe you medication. I can’t recommend any non prescription facial cleansers or anything of that variety as I have been using various products for 3-4 years to clear it up before to no avail. I finally went to the GP and they prescribed me with an antibiotic pill called Erythromycin once a day and a solution which is applied to my face twice daily called Aknemycin Plus.
I can tell you mine has gone from very severe to hardly noticeable within 1 month.

also if you aren’t going to use prescription medicine go for a gentle facial cleanser and after use a moisturizer that isn’t oil based. You might wonder why im telling you to moisturize when your skin is oily but after washing your skin can become dry which makes you produce more oil which can be bad if your pores are constantly blocked.

Wash your face daily. In the morning, wash only with cold water. Apply lotion. In the evening, wash with water (temperature doesn’t matter) and apply soap MADE FOR THE FACE. (SOME SOAPS CAN MAKE ACNE WORSE IF THEY AREN’T MEANT TO BE USED ON YOUR FACE). Rinse and apply facial lotion. Yes facials really work!! Get one!! They rock!!

Four out of five people between the ages of twelve and twenty-five have acne, making it the most commonly diagnosed skin condition. I think if we get to know about acne, it’s always better than just going after applying some lotion or soap.
