What are your secrets to clearer skin?

I used to use a lot of benzoyl peroxide products to fight my acne (which did sometimes work), but I've heard recently benzoyl peroxide promotes skin aging, so I'm trying to use less harmful products like a St. Ives exfoliating scrub. But my acne doesn't seem to be doing anything except staying on my face (it's not healing or clearing up). I use an Olay moisturizer on my face to keep it from drying out (not sure if that's bad or not), and sometimes salicylic acid acne treatments but nothing ever seems to do the trick. I usually end up just layering my face in mineral foundation to hide everything (which makes me think I'm just going to break out even more).

Any advice or tips?

  1. A microbiologist would tell you that soap and water is best; and not too much of either..

  2. Skin-Care Basics: What You Really Need
Here are the skin-care basics: a water-soluble cleanser (never use an eye makeup remover or wipe-off cleanser; pulling at the eye stretches the skin and makes it sag); an exfoliating product (a scrub such as baking soda or an AHA product); a disinfectant if you have blemishes (such as 3% hydrogen peroxide or benzoyl peroxide) or an irritant-free toner if you don’t; and a moisturizer or a nongreasy product, for use during the day, that contains a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 (or a foundation that contains an SPF of 15 if you don’t want to use a moisturizer or nongreasy lotion).
If you have dry skin, you may want to use a different moisturizer at night, but it isn’t essential. The only real reason to use different daytime and nighttime moisturizers is if your daytime moisturizer contains a sunscreen or if you want to use an AHA product at night only. If you have very dry skin, you may prefer to use a more emollient moisturizer at night than the one you use during the day. Same for the eye area: if the skin around your eyes is different from the rest of your face, you need a different moisturizing product for that area. Otherwise, most face products can be used around the eye area, regardless of what the cosmetics companies claim.
Among the vast number of cleansers, toners, exfoliators, AHA products, moisturizers, and sunscreens on the market are many good products. Yet we wonder which company has developed the best ones, or which product contains the latest secret ingredients for procuring a perfect complexion. Perfect skin-that carrot of hope dangled in the form of beautiful, overpriced containers and jars-is not possible. Spending a lot of money to achieve a perfect skin is perhaps one of the biggest deceptions at the cosmetics counters. Even if you can afford the cost, it is still a waste, because being misled never makes you feel or look good.

  3. go steam room and when you come out have a cold shower… it opens up your pours and cleans them when you take the shower, also closes them. you can find steam rooms at pools and maybe leasure centres

  4. i get really bad breakouts too!

i drink up to five glasses of green tea a day and drink at least 1 litre of water. if i go to the gym or work up a sweat i make sure i have a shower. i also remove all my make up!

i think you’re using too many treatments. have you thought about medication, like the pill? my friend uses that and her skin is now 100% clearer!

  5. I use benzoyl peroxide, if I were you I would continue to use it, I don’t think its really going to do any skin aging, especially the skin aging acne will do if you don’t get it off of your face. Also to work as a team with benzoyl peroxide see a dermatologist and get minocycling 100 mg. With those two working together your face will be unstoppable(:

  6. Wow, I always used peroxide. I guess that explains the wrinkles! It’s better for your face to be dried out if you are prone to acne. Try using Pro Active, everyone says it works really well! I only had the occasional pimple, but I used to wash my face in the morning and at night, maybe that played a part. I also tried not to touch my face a lot.

  7. Nothing! Sometimes if you use to many products to clear your skin it may irritate it even more. Just wash your face before you go to sleep. Moisturize it with lotion. And maybe use a mask once and a while. Your skin will probably feel smoother in a few weeks!

  8. you have got to try vichy it is at cvs

  9. Try tea tree oil. You can get it from the Body Shop. It’s really good and doesn’t have a lot of chemicals in it- it was used to make tea but it’s really good for the face.

  10. Well what I do is wash my face twice a day with St. Ives acne formula. I try not to use moisterizer because that seems to make it worse but the do have oil free formulas so I would suggest you use that.
Acne treatments don’t seem to do anything but make my face way dry which just makes it look worse.

  11. Got2Be used to have the most amazing line of ‘spa’ facial masks. They don’t make them anymore, but I swear, this stuff was like MAGIC- it was this clear gel "oxygen mask" and it had hydrogen peroxide in it.

I used to put it on at night, and it would take ALL the red out of any existing pimples and they’d be completely gone or dried up by the morning. Plus, it made my face feel really really smooth, and washed off with a really clean feeling.

I’ve tried other masks since that say they have hydrogen peroxide- but they were crap and left my face feeling like I had slathered it in vaseline. :/

  12. i very rarely get spots i get one rarely and i eat pritty healthily and excersise but toothpaste dries them out which i know sounds strange but it works well and foundation isnt going to help your spots to be fair i know it helps to cover them but in the long run makes it worse mineral foundation is proberly the best to use because a liquid foundation would make them really bad. i think its hiredity because no one really gets spots in my family and neither do i :/ which such if u inherit it.tee tree oil is good for spots but dont get a too strong one like pure tee tree oil as it will dry your skin out.lots of water does work for sure and excersise will help i know its annoying to her theres no magical cream :/ but water and excercise will detox your body.

you could make a home made face mask i herd making a paste from cucumeber can help prevent spots

also nutmeg and milk is supposed to be a good natural paste to help towards geting rid of spots

    hope i helped x x x

  13. Washing it every day and night.

Sorry, I’m no expert but I saw this question and was like ‘what the hell’ :)

  14. I Have No secrets.

i had bad acne when i first started puberty which was around 11 years of age….till about 14ish then it started clearing up, but during then i used everythin and anyfin that would combat spots and blackheads, but now i just get the occasional spot and my skin is clear now. :)

only when i gota rash or my period is coming up do i have massive spots and all that.

just drink alot of water. and use a good skin cream to tone and give some beneficial vitamins to ur skn.
