  1. I know you’re looking for home remedies but it really would be best to go see your doctor – I agree – don’t waste time with over the counter stuff – getting something on prescription will be much more effective though.

I used to have very bad skin and did try home remedies too but nothing helped.

The doctor can offer a number of treatments – hope this might help you a little :)

Antibiotics or topical treatments like benzyl peroxide will kill the P.acnes bacteria on your skin.

Retinoids are available which affect cell turnover and will therefore help to stop pores getting blocked with dead skin cells. I use a topical Retin A gel (also called tretinoin or isotrex) which I’d definitely recommend.

It is possible to use more than one treatment at the same time, which may help to get a better result. Just remember that with anything you try you need to allow at least a month to see significant results.

The mini pill is also very effective for many girls too – it helped improve my skin a lot ( I was prescribed Dianette).

Don’t overdo cleaning your face – using something that is mild and for sensitive skin is best – as drying out your skin by using harsh cleansers (or even by using very hot then very cold water) will only stimulate the oil glands to produce more oil/sebum – and its the oil and dead skin cells which block your pores (when P.acnes bacteria gets trapped in these blocked pores this is when redness and inflammation occurs)

Also – if you use makeup check that it is non comedogenic (won’t block pores) as otherwise it will aggrevate the problem.

There will be a treatment that will work for you – it just might take a little time – I hope you do find a solution soon – I know how upsetting it can be.

  2. Try making your own soap at home. search the web for good recipes. that you’ll like.

    major benefit: no harsh chemicals.

and yeah i know where your coming from with the toothpaste..
my friends suggested it to me and all it did for me was scar my face where the acne was….

  3. Back and chest acne: Steamy showers and oatmeal soap, once a day. Take warm baths with sprigs of thyme and rosemary.

Face acne: Boil a pot of water on the stove. When it is done boiling, place some medium sprigs rosemary into it, or sprinkle some dried rosemary into it. About five sprigs should suffice. (If the water turns yellow, it is a good sign!) Grab a dish towel and take the pot of rosemary water and put it on a table. Place your face into the steam, and drape the towel over your head so that the steam cannot escape. Stay like this for about 10-15 minutes, or until the steam dies down. After that, take the cloth, dip it into the water, and (very!) lightly dab your face. Do this one a day. It works like a charm.

DO NOT squeeze your acne; this will result in scarring, ESPECIALLY around your chest area!
