Switching birth control from Micronor to Implanon?

I am in a loving, monogamous relationship of 3 years and we hate condoms and every other barrier method. I have tried numerous different combination birth control pills (and 'the ring') and have quit a handful of them because of yeast infections, lowered sex drive, terrible acne, etc. When I finally found one that worked for me (YAZ), my doctor informed me that she can no longer prescribe me combination pills because I have high blood pressure... which I guess is caused by estrogen.
So she switched me to Ortho Micronor which worked for a little but has increasingly been giving me terrible awful acne that makes me look like a pizza face. Micronor, a progesterone only pill or 'mini pill', is also annoying because you have to take it at the EXACT time every day (within 3 hours) or it is ineffective. I went to my doctor and explained how it is not working for me and she suggested the shot but said it might make my acne worse and I am like HELL NAW.
Then I asked her about Paragard, a copper IUD that is hormone free. I read about it online and it seems like it would work cause there would be no hormones to jack up my sh*t and give me weird side effects. But she seemed uneasy about it and explained that because I have never been pregnant before, there is a risk of ectopic pregnancy and I may have severe cramping, etc.
But then she suggested Implanon, a hormonal contraceptive device implanted into your arm and left there for up to 3 years. So I and made an appointment to get the implanon put in. But now I am not so sure about this implant thing because online there is a lot of negative feedback about it. With side effects such as acne, yuck, decreased sex drive, double yuck, and weight gain, triple yuck. But I know everyone is different so should I just give it a try?
Has anyone else switched from Micronor to Implanon?
What have been your experiences with side effects for either?

  1. Your doctor is either entirely ignorant or completely full of sh!t. I was 17 when I had my ParaGard inserted, and I’ve never been pregnant. There is NO REASON you should have to keep using hormonal birth control if you’re experiencing undesirable side-effects. Find a different doctor who is more up-to-date with her/his practice.

The risk for ectopic pregnancy is no higher than it is in people without IUDs. An IUD will NOT cause an ectopic pregnancy. The fact of the matter is that, if you get pregnant with an IUD, it will probably be ectopic, because uterine pregnancies are nearly impossible… HOWEVER, these are ectopics that would have occurred anyway, and had nothing to do with the IUD. As far as the cramping goes, my gynecologist said that I did significantly better with insertion than some of her patients who had had multiple children. I lightly spotted and cramped for 5 days afterward, and then I was fine. 2 days of my 4 1/2 day period with the thing were worse than usual, but totally manageable. Hell, it’s not even unheard of for VIRGINS to have IUDs inserted. Once again: find a better doctor. Non-hormonal IUDs are so wonderful, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t be allowed to at least try it.

This site is filled with nulliparous IUD users:

  2. Hey I understand what you mean.
Monistat didn’t work for me.. my doctor prescribed me meds and it made even worst!
Despite when it manage to heal, the yeast infection will come back again (means it’s not fully cured).
I realized the only real cure for Yeast infection is doing the natural way so it won’t come back again!

This website on Yeast Infection will help you. I had a Yeast Infection a few weeks back and that website gave many good details. I got the book and it helped me cure my Yeast Infection within 10 hours without the use of drugs!
It was featured in the Oprah show before! Oprah Winfrey praised the product and was featured in her book club!
