Question about accutane?
I have had persistent acne since I was in about 5th grade. I am a senior in high school now. I was on minocycline and tetracycline at different times, and I have been on Bactrim for the past year. Bactrim has definitely been the most effective treatment so far. It has cleared my face up to a certain degree. I still end up with little patches here or there consistently. Few pop up, go away, then more come in a different spot. I don't think I'm as consistent with taking the bactrim as I could be though.
Even though my acne has gotten much better than previously, I am still so tired of having to deal with never having a completely clear face. It has been such a long time.. I now have plenty of acne scars, which is just awesome... and I don't want to continue. I just want to have a perfectly clear face, for once.
I went to the dermatologist about a month ago, and she set me up to start going on accutane a month from that. The last time I had a visit to the derm, she was the one that had suggested I should try accutane. I have been pondering it for months, and this last time I decided I would do it. My derm said that basically being on Bactrim for a long time could be just as risky as being on Accutane, so I mine as well try something new & more effective. So, I am supposed to be starting accutane in 10 days. I have to get bloodwork done a few days beforehand.
There is, however, still time for me to back out of it. I was planning to go get bloodwork done tomorrow morning, but I have been reading really negative reviews and it's really making me second guess my decision- once again.
I just want to know if you think it would be worth it and what your personal experiences have been. I'm afraid of the long-term side effects.
Thanks(: !

hey! i was on it for 10 months, and i would definitely recommend it. i didn’t have any negative side effects really.. except freaking dry eyes and lips lol. i’d be buying chapstick and eyedrops monthly.
i’ve been off for about 6 months now and i’ve had no long term effects so far.. i’ve had a small breakout recently and i’m back on antibiotics again though, so grr.

I’m really sorry about your acne. Accutane can be a really bad drug and it has tons of side effects like Chron’s disease , bad night vision dry skin and dry eyes , the last three ones are most common among the accutane users. A lot of people who took this medication confessed that their acne disappeared but after they stopped taking it pooped back again , so I really don’t know how your body will react on it but keep in mind it’s a very dangerous drug and you should consider for an alternative before you decide to take it or not.
