I've Had It With Acne?

I used to use Proactiv and it worked SO well in high school but then I went through some financial problems and didn't buy any, and then a few months later my face broke out badly again I started using it for about 4 months and saw hardly any improvement. I've used Murad with minimal improvement, Acne-Free just really inflamed my skin, and the Neutogena system didn't work so well, either. My face has never been broken out this long ever before (it's been really bad since about December).

I gave each system at least 4 weeks to work, but saw little to no improvement.

I don't have severe acne, but it's the worst it's ever been and just isn't clearing up.

Is there that *one* product I haven't tried that isn't going to totally wipe me out ($), or some home remedy that isn't going to take much time out of my daily routine, or should I just buck up and see a dermatologist?

Also, I drink plenty of water, eat relatively well, and keep my hands away from my face.

  1. okay continue drinking loads of water and wash ur face thrice a day. y don’t u try home remedies? they’re safe and inexpensive

You can apply a paste of fresh methi (fenugreek) leaves to the concerned area every night. Leave it on for 10-15 minutes and wash with warm water.

. Create a paste using cucumber. Apply as a mask and leave it on for 1-1/2 hours. Rinse.

. Create a paste using 1 tsp groundnut oil with 1 tsp fresh lime juice. Smear on your face and leave it on for 10-15 minutes. Wash.

. Wash your face with a warm salty water solution, twice a day. Pat dry.

. Massage the face with the skin of a lemon before washing with lukewarm water.

    To reduce swellings:

. Apply toothpaste on the affected area overnight, making sure to use paste and not gel toothpaste.

. Place strawberry leaves on the affected area to allow the alkalinity reduce the swelling.

. Apply the juice of raw papaya, including the skin and seeds, on the affected area.

. Mix juice of one lemon with equal parts rose water. Apply the mixture on the affected area and leave it on for about half an hour. Wash face with fresh water. Repeat for 15 days.

    Acne Treatments:

. Apply the juice of fresh mint on the face every night.

. Mix together 2-3 tsp dried basil leaves and a cup of boiling water. Steep for 10-20 minutes then let it cool. Apply using cotton balls on the affected area.

. Create a paste using ground orange peels and some water. Apply to the affected area.

. Apply aloe vera extract on the affected area to speed up healing.

You have to understand that acne is caused by oily secretions called sebum getting trapped under the skin in a canal called a follicle. The follicle is a narrow space that runs from the oil glands to the skin pores on the surface of your skin. Hair also grows out through the follicle and when hair and sebum are trapped in a clogged follicle, this allows bacteria to grow. It is these bacteria that cause swelling and redness. So, a lot of the commercial treatments are based on an anti-bacterial active ingredient.

If you look closely at the ingredients in most of the recipe above, a lot of them also have anti-bacterial properties but coming from natural sources. However, all the remedies mentioned above and even commercial products needs time to work so have patience and continuously apply the treatment. If all else fails, one rule prevails – never pop your pimple.

  2. Hormones are outta wack, try Birth control

  3. Wow I’ve tried the exact same 4 products! That’s way funny! i’m still breaking out like crazy tooo. Maybe you can go to the doctor and see if they can prescribe you accutane? that’s if yourre acne is pretty bad, like mine is. One summer I drank like a ton of water a day and my skin was sooo clear!

    Good luck!

  4. Do you get enough sleep? If you have done everything and it doesnt clear up you mith go to the dermatologist. If its not yet severe you can try not applying anything else just let it rest for awhile. wash it with the most gentle soap that you can find. try baby soap. it must be solid soap and not liquid… wash in the morning. and evening. after awhile put tea tree oil only in the acne taking care not to put to much pressure so as not to irritate it. for tea tree oil check this out

  5. I think you should go to a dermatologist and get it fixed for good. I took accutane when I was a teenager and it is a miracle drug. I highly recommend it.
After Accutane I didnt have a pimple for about 5 years and then I slowly started to break out again. Things that have worked since then are anti-biotics and birth control pills. There is a BC pill called Apri that makes my skin flawless. An easy at home remedy is to take some aspirin ( the cheap kind, not the coated kind) and mix it with a little water and lotion into a paste. Put the paste on your face and let it dry then wash it off. It helps acne and calms red skin. Good luck!

  6. just rub soil on ur face , its very cheap

  7. -if your acne is because of dry skin, try a FACE moisturizer, Dove products work great. a little pricey but worth it

    - if its its because of oily skin, use an oil free face wash, and astringent. i always use "for sensitive skin" so it wont dry my skin out too much

-i have combination skin and i use an apricot scrub, i think st ives makes it, but there is a generic brand as well

-always buy "noncosmeogetic" makeup and skin produts. they wont clog your pores

-if you are a female, try taking birth control. its known to clear up acne. you can get it for free at a "planned parenthood" or "family planning" facility

  8. ok this might sound strange…but i had quite severe acne since november and i’ve tried just about everything and it didnt work…until the beginning of March i’ve been introduced to the miracles of coconut oil. i used virgin coconut oil on my face morning and night, and it had been 23 days of use and my skin cleared up 90% no kidding. some people see great results within a week, some a month, some 2-3 months. you can get it in a cheap price at any health shop. get virgin coconut oil, unrefined. they are the ones best for your skin. just try. if it doesnt work for you, i’m sure it will not make it worst.

  9. Go and see a dermatologist and see what they have to say.

I really like Paula’s Choice 2% bha liquid. It cleared my skin up fast, and isn’t damaging. You have to order it online, but you can get samples for cheap. Her stuff isn’t expensive either.

Try visiting acne.org. It is a nonprofit community of acne sufferers of all ages and severities.

Visit the message boards, the people there have more experience than those on this site. Most people here will recomend what they use, or what they see on tv, or what their mom or dad told them about acne. They probably have never struggled like you or I have with acne.

  10. Acuzine works by eliminating the cause of acne by removing all unwanted and waste materials from the body. It is a good source of antioxidants that remove the free radicals that harm the skin.

  11. I live in Australia and there is a great product called "BENZAC" it has the same active ingredient in it as proactive "BENZOYL PEROXIDE" you can get it from Priceline and the chemist. There is a face wash ($15 approx) and a cream($15) which is similar to the refining mask. When my friend got it the chemist lady suggested using an alcohol free toner with it and a gentle mouisturiser (such as the DOVE range)… BENZAC lasts loner than proactive aswell. Having known some one to have tried both PROACTIVE and BENZAC and seeing the proof that Benzac does the same as Proactive for half the price!!!!

  12. Speaking from first hand experience, I too had been breaking out badly in the last months.

I went and got 2 chemical peels from a dermatologists office and it has been a miracle. I know this is not cheap BUT it works!

Also I have been applying Paula’s Choice exfoliator every day (can be found online), and started using Alba Organics line of skin care. I also apply pure aloe vera gel every evening. All this has helped dramastically and my face is better than EVER!

  13. this is the answer to your problem….I’ve never had a clear complexion ever since high school until just about a month ago. I ditched my old face wash & got Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Face Cleanser. I wash every morning & night & put moisturizer w/ salicytic acid on after I wash. My face is clear for the first time in a very LONG time. It’s only $6 bucks or so for the face wash…good luck!

  14. Try this, apply slices of tomato on your skin ,the pulp of the tomato has astringent properties which can prevent acne. More home remedies available at http://www.wellnesstalk.org/acne.html
