is there any OTC anti-biotic to take for acne?

my face cleared up when I was on penicillin and no topical treatments have ever worked so I'm really excited that I've found something that finally did work, but my parents don't think my skin is bad enough to have to take me to a dermatologist. I guess it's not that bad, it could be a lot worse, but I hate feeling like I have to put on a mask of makeup everyday to cover up blemishes...

  1. No, antibiotics *should* never be OTC. You don’t want to be taking antibiotics regularly, it’s not healthy. Try an anti-bacterial face-wash, particularly something with salicylic acid, I’ve always found this to work best.

Some people have also said that going on the pill helps control acne, I don’t think you need your parents permission for that either (although it’s probably best to ask them if possible)

Edit: What sort of pharmacies are dispensing amoxicillin without a prescription??? That’s dangerous!! Overuse of antibiotics is a growing public health problem, also amoxicillin can cause a sudden allergic reaction in some people!

  2. sorry, but i don’t know! DX

  3. I don’t think you can get antibiotics OTC. Ask your regular family doctor about getting a prescription for your acne. You shouldn’t necessarily need to see a dermatologist unless it’s really bad.

  4. yes amoxicilin

  5. Use pure lemon juice on your face and don’t use soap on your face just wash it with water and use cotton ball to clean it with lemon juice at night you will have immediate results by morning…only thing that worked for me.

  6. There are no OTC antibiotics at all. People abuse them and just make the bacteria stronger so they don’t make them OTC. Try a mask with sulfur in it, or something with tea tree oil. You can always ask your general doctor for something to help, they will often prescribe something without sending you to a dermatologist.

  7. try tee tree liquid soap its really good for clearing up your skin fast. wash your face once when you wake up and before you go to sleep and then apply a light moisturizer. not too much depending on how oily your skin is and also drink LOTS!!! of water. this should help
