Is my skin care regiment okay?

I'm not sure if i'm using too many different products on my skin or if they are stopping the others from working, so please help.

I haven't been using this routine for very long so i can't tell you if its treating my acne yet. But if its going to make it worse than i would like to know fast, so here it is. I use an off brand of St. Ives Apricot scrub, and a few times a day i use Clean & Clear advantage acne spot treatment. And sometimes when i come inside after working on something and my face is all sweaty, i use a Witch hazel astringent pad with aloe to freshen myself up a bit & i also heard witch hazel will help even out my skin tone.

& also since that witch hazel is an astringent will it still work as an anti agent?

  1. I don’t think it will make it worse, but if you have bad acne that you want to get rid of then you should go see a dermatologist they really are a lot of help I’ve gone to them many times. They will give you the right products you need do clear up your skin for your skin type. They know what they are doing and usually can help.

As far as what you are doing I don’t really see anything wrong with using that many products just the fact that one might be working and the others aren’t so you might be wasting your money on all of those products. But I don’t think that using them together will make it worse.

  2. I can tell you what worked for me:

As someone with a history of acne, I had better results after I stopped using medicated products and switched to a simple, mild face soap while scrubbing very gently with a clean cloth twice per day. I used a an apricot scrub, but not a medicated one.

After washing and drying twice per day, I applied an anti-inflammatory face cream called "Ultra Rejuvenex", which has a list of antioxidant and anti-inflammatories.

After about ten days, I noticed that oil production in my face decreased and acne started to diminish. I think the presence of the extra moisture and all the anti-inflammatories in the product signals the skin to down-regulate production of oil after a time.

Although, the first four days or so of doing this it was worse, because it takes a while for oil secretion to go down, and a while for the anti-inflammatory ingredients to start having an effect.

If you tried something like this, it would involve getting rid of pro-inflammatory medicated topical products (like those containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid) and also astringents.

  3. I think since you’ve been using this routine for so long, your skin is used to it and it isn’t really doing your acne much good. Try to change things up a bit. I like to use the daily exfoliating cleanser from Noxema. That works really good. Then I use Neutragena’s gentle toner, and then I use either Aveeno or Neutragena moisturizer. Good luck and hope I helped!:)

  4. You’ll get many different answers here, but your skin is different but there’s only one method that will work, same way other countries does to their skin.

The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath wash like Suave Bath & Body Gel, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.

The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don’t use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.

Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you’re actually spreading it around. Example: ProActiv contains a known carcinogen, at a percentage known to promote skin cancer.

Smoking has been shown to make acne worse since it diminishes the delivery of oxygen to the skin and robs it of nutrients, thereby inhibiting cars from healing. Not enough reason to quit? Smoke depletes moisture, making skin lose its luster and look wrinkly.

The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone’s problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!

The FDA has called for more safety studies on benzoyl peroxide because of concern about what happens when skin treated with it is exposed to the sun. Until research can establish or disprove a possible skin cancer link to the use of benzoyl peroxide products, the agency plans to require an extra warning and directions on the labeling: "When using this product, avoid unnecessary sun exposure and use sunscreen." and "If going outside, use a sunscreen. Allow [product name] to dry, then follow directions in the sunscreen labeling. If irritation or sensitivity develops, discontinue use of both products and consult a doctor."

I get one tiny zit a month or none. I have very clear, soft & silky complexion and I’m 60 years old, same as when I was in HS.
