Is it bad to have a skin care routine at 13?

I asked a question asking if i had a good skin care routine and a lot of people say that i shouldnt use all these chemicals on my skin or even care about my skin at 13.
I just use cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer and acne medication from the dermatologist for my back/chest acne.
it would be gross not to wash my face at all.
i also use spf 35 during the day
is that ok?

  1. It’s AWESOME to develop good skin care routines at a young age. I am VERY impressed that you use an SPF. Since sun is the number one cause of age spots and early wrinkles, you are very smart. Not all chemicals are bad for us! Some of them protect us and maintain us. As you get into your 20s, 30s and beyond, your skin care routine will changes but it’s an excellent habit. And when you get older and you have amazing skin, people will say "I wish I took care of myself when I was younger." You go, girl! :-)

  2. Uhm, I had a routine at 11 or 12. That’s around the time a lot of people start getting acne.
Everyone is different and if you are going to a dermatologist then you’re fine!
The skin doc would know best!

  3. Yes! You keeping clean, it’s perfectly normal and good.

  4. well basic skin care, like washing it and moisturizing, is all you need to worry about, but nothing more detailed than good old fashioned cleansing soap or foam and some basic moisturizing cream morning and night with the former and just morning with the latter. but if you’ve got acne, as i did seven yrs. ago when i was thirteen, then i guess you do need a routine. that’s bad, but what can you do?

  5. yes thats good that you care for your skin. the people who say its bad for you abviously dont know what theyre talking about. especially since you do go to the dermatologist, you can just ask your derma. if you are doing everything right… if it was he/she who reccomended the routine to you then it is more than fine.

  6. Of course its OK ! Anyone who says not to take care of your skin, must have gave up hope with there body! The age thing means nothing. Some people get puberty at 8 when others at 17, so age is just a number, but once you start growing up, taking care of pores, skin, and body is so important, and a great healthy habit!

You are correct, not washing your face would be gross, I wash my face at least twice a day(morning&night) with a gentle face wash and at night a scrub.(I’m 14)

Using sun screen is always good too, even if your not red and sunburned, to much sun radiation isn’t good for your skin. Good for you! keep using that!

No worries, your doing fine! :)

  7. yes, its okay.
its good to start cleaning your face when your young.
it helps keep it clean and clear when yor older(:

  8. Having a good skin care routine is always a good idea no matter your age. Use products that are ment to be used together, whatever cleanser and moisturizer you decide to use, don’t mix products, such as Mary Kay has a nice cleanser and moisterizer for acne prone skin, popular with the teens, it’s "Volocity" also do what your doctor says to do. Keep using that sunscreen, very important every day, again try to use same brand name of each product if possible.

  9. That’s fine. At 13 your face and body is likely to start breaking out or producing more oil. It’s good to get into the habit of washing the excess oil off, as well as the day’s worth of makeup or dirt that’s on your face.
As far as too much chemicals, if after you wash your face your face is really red and irritated, then it is too strong for your skin, but if it doesn’t irritate it, then it’s fine.
Young want to definitely wear spf starting young. You’ll be glad you did when you get older because your skin will look younger and better because of the spf you used when you are young. Unless you live somewhere hot or have really sensitive skin, you really don’t need spf 35. spf 15 or 20 should do the trick if you’re not directly in the hot summer sun.
