I'm freaking out, is this true?!!?!?!?!?

I just read in a n article in a pregnancy magazine that using salycylic acid causes birth defects. Both my moisturizer and my toner and an acne spot treatment I use occasionally contain this. I went to the store and realized that almost ever acne cleanser, moisturizer and toner does. Does this mean that my child is at risk for defects? I'm 21 weeks and have always used the same CLean and CLear moisturizer adn Biore toner (both haev salicylic acid). What am I supposed to use on my face, I haven't stopped breaking out since I've been pregnant!!

  1. You’ll be fine. That medication does not get absored past the first layer of skin so it never reaches the baby. I’ve stopped reading certain articles and books because all they do is upset me.

    No worries! Congrats!

  2. best bet is to call your doc first thing tmw

  3. call you Dr and stop worrying… it will be fine. All pregnant women use that stuff!

  4. I have been using my Clinique skin care line thru-out my entire pregnancy, I asked my doctor about it, he said it’s nothing to worry about. I’ve also read the entire book ‘What to Expect When You’re Expecting’ and they don’t even mention anything about skin-care products, there are far more serious things to worry about…like eating poorly, caffiene, alcohol, drugs, etc. I believe you’re just fine, I used a special zit cream a few times during my pregnancy along with my facel soup, toner, and lotion and everything has been smooth sailing. Freaking out about this is honestly bad, too, because you don’t need to be stressing and worrying too much while you’re pregnant. Relax, it’s okay :D

  5. I used Products With that stuff in it with my first daughter i think the whole time i was pregnant with her cause i did not know you we’re not supposed to she is fine. With my second baby though When i found out I was pregnant I stopped using products with it in it and went and bought new ones. All natural beauty products do not have it in them usually along with some for women with sensitive skin.It took me awhile to find products without it in there but Did end up finding some.

  6. There are TONS of natural things you can do for your acne at home. Try researching natural remedies for things. Most use normal everyday products and foods you already have at home. I only use natural products and home made remedies. I clean ONLY with baking soda and vinegar, I use mayonaise on my hair, salt scrub for my skin, essential oils for almost everything, and loose leaf teas. It is very beneficial. There are so many chemicals in EVERYTHING consumers use everyday, and we have NO IDEA what they are actually doing to us!!! Let alone our unborn babies! There are KNOWN CARCINOGENS (which cause cancer) in all kinds of shampoos and toothpastes… yet they are approved by the FDA! If you dig into it more, you will be astonished at what we are doing to ourselves. It’s very scary.

For acne… I use the following (you just have to try each one for a few weeks each and see which one works for you).
    - cut a piece of garlic in half and rub the wet end onto your acne
    - use a few drops of tea tree oil on each spot
    - use a piece of lemon on each spot
    - take raw garlic everyday orally (garlic is anti-bacterial and anti-viral…. just chop it up real real tiny and swallow with water – don’t chew it though or you’ll burn your mouth!!)… this can also help prevent illness such as colds
I would stop using your normal brands for sure.

    Good Luck!

  7. I believe it is a prescription acne medicine (I think it is called Accutane??) that can cause birth defects, I have heard nothing about salicylic acid. Call your OB to be sure, but I think you will be just fine!
