I am a long time acne sufferer, does any body have any tips?

I am sick of having acne.

I'm almost 19 now and I first got acne around 13 years of age.

I have tried Acnefree, Proactiv, Arbonne, and more. None of them have really worked.

I'm sick of spending money and still having nasty skin.

So is there anyone out there who has gone through pretty bad acne and cured it without these miracle treatments that would like to share with me??

Thank you.

  1. If you have tried that many over-the-counter treatments (as I did when I was younger), and you still have "bad" acne, then it is time for you to head to the dermatologist (even if you don’t have insurance) and ask about going on Accutane. The amount of money you have spent over time on over-the-counter treatments is less than you would spend on a trip to the dermatologist. Accutane is the only treatment that provides long-term, effective remission for acne that has not responded to other treatments. Other medications are available, but you have to use them consistently, or the acne returns if you stop.

Accutane is typically reserved for cases of severe, cystic/nodular acne or cases that have not responded to other forms of treatment. The side effects can be significant, but they can be controlled, and careful monitoring is required. I went on the medication four times (which is very unusual, but I have extremely oily skin with very resistant acne). Most patients do very well on only one or two courses of treatment.

If your acne is only moderate, then you may be prescribed other, less aggressive treatment. However, you have definitely exhausted the over-the-counter options. I would not spend much time on "home remedies". Just because it worked for one person, it doesn’t mean it will work for everyone. If the solution were so easily found, all of these acne treatments wouldn’t exist, and there wouldn’t be nearly as many dermatologists. I am including a link below from WebMD that helps patients determine if Accutane is right for them. Good luck — and seek medical help for your acne. It certainly made a huge difference in my skin once I did.

  2. nope just gota deal with it biatch

  3. Birth control if it’s hormonal….or Accutane!

  4. Wipe some antiseptic (like Dettol) onto your skin every night. Works for me but it hurts like hell. LOL

  5. the dermatologist. costs $80-$100 for a visit. ask for a prescription called benzaclyn. it’s a tiny little jar of cream. it is miracle in a bottle i tell you! it’s very expensive. about $70-80 to fill the prescription. but if it works then you can probably call and get a refill over the phone, instead of paying to go back into the dermatologist. it is so great. will make your skin smooth as a babys butt, no dryness, irritation, anything. it works immediately. like a week later your skin will be 75% better. the problem is, if you stop using it, your skin goes back to being awful. i have also tried everything, and nothing else works well. it is worth every penny. you will be so happy you will want to kiss me if you try this stuff. good luck.

  6. I have also been an acne sufferer–from 13 to 17. My mother took me to a half dozen dermatologists–each recommending treatments that did not work. When I was 17, my mother took me to a doctor who gave me x-ray treatments on my face. I had 12 treatments, I assume similar to what cancer patients receive, and my acne was gone!

These treatments were given to me in 1958. I have since learned these treatments are no longer available.

When my oldest daughter was battling acne, doctors prescribed tetracycline.

There are many methods of treating acne; but, there are no definitive "cures".

  7. they have places you can go to get your skin lasered. the skin wil peal pretty bad the first few days but you face will be completely cleared up

  8. old native american remedy:

put the yolk of an egg in a thin even layer on your face, leave it for about 15- 30 minutes until its sort of dry, but not so dry that it starts flaking and then wash it off. within a month you should see results, I think it has something to do with the vitamin A in the egg yolk.

  9. Go on the pill – there are ones that specifically target acne – mine is great, cured it totally – ask your doctor about the Diane E35 pill.

  10. You have my complete symphathy. I remember being a teen with acne problems. What I remember was my dermatologist telling me not to use any soap, because it may irritate the acne more. Just wash it with water frequently and do not rub your face because it may cause more irritation. Don’t use make up too like powder or foundation, it can make the acne itchy.

Skin anti-oxidants medicine may help, this wasn’t around during my time. But if our body needs anti-oxidants then I presume our skin does too.

Try check ing this Acnezine out. I was browsing through women’s health and trying to find any tips to clear my face of some blotches and found this http://womans-health.net/acne/index.php. I’m also considering ordering them.

  11. Acne is common on the back, chest, shoulders, and even buttocks of many people. It can be a sign of more severe acne when the lesions are large and painful.Log on to http://tipsfromruby-acne.blogspot.com/ for a few home made tips to heal acne .
