How do I get rid of blackheads?
I use Neutrogena Acne Control which does help my skin, I hardly get any pimples at all. But that's not my problem, How do I get rid of blackheads? I wash my face twice a day and those little suckers are still there. I also use oxy pads but those don't seem to help the blackheads, just the acne. I have tried getting a hot towel and opening the pores and squeezing them out.. but it goes away for about a week and then comes back. I'm tired of having to always do that. Any suggestions? by the way Proactive does not help my skin, it actually made my skin break out even more and dried it up to the point where I had layers of skin coming off.. so no need to suggest that product to me. -Thanks!

I’ve been an esthetician for over 10 years and I can tell that the answer is nothing. Sorry! I have had many clients who have been on Accutane for their acne and still have a face full of blackheads when it’s all said and done- No acne though.
The only thing you can do is remove them your self or have an esthetician do it on a reg basis. The good news is that your skin type may change as you get older and they may eventually stop.
Those strips don’t really work by the way. A black head is deep and the surface turns black because it oxidizes in the air. The strips just take off the top black part but your pore are still filled and will oxidize again in a couple of days.

I use pore strips. They start off really soft, you wet the affected area and put the strip on. Leave it until the strip goes hard and dry then pull it off. Gets rid of mine!

You’re on the right track with Neutrogena, which has salicylic/beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), and can penetrate into the pores to exfoliate the plugs out of the pores. More effective than a cleanser may be a leave-on BHA product. Neutrogena makes a good one, which should be started cautiously if your skin is sensitive, like once every other day: the 3-in-1 acne stress control hydrating treatment. Paula’s Choice also has good BHA exfoliants.
If this doesn’t get you the results you want, a prescription option is tretinoin, with your dermatologist’s supervision of course. Tretinoin is a version of Vitamin A and is powerful stuff. It helps with acne (takes about 2 months), lightening sunspots and preventing/reducing wrinkles (6+ months).
Gentle extractions can also be done (the key word being gentle) and are linked through below. If your skin is sensitive, you should avoid Biore pore strips: along with the blackheads they can rip off the epidermis or worse.
Hope this helps.
