Have had acne for 8 years, what to do?

I will be 21 soon and I have had acne since I was 13. I have tried every OTC cream and wash and even those "systems" like proactiv and acne free. NOTHING WORKS!!! I always shoot for 8 glasses of water a day, sometime i get them all but i usually get around 5. I started working out about 2 months ago and have been eating healthier sine then but I have seen no improvement with the change in my diet. I have literally tried every thing known to man to treat acne (i tried honey and toothpaste, neither worked) except going to a dermatologist. I haven't gone b/c everyone I know says that Rx acne treatments dry your face out and just make it worse. Aside from seeing a dermatologist, what other things can I do to help tone down my acne???

***I have it really bad around my jawline and the center of my forhead***

  1. It’s simply hormonal acne.

You need to find natural methods to balance your hormones or combat the excess Sebum(oil) production.

You have to fight the acne with diet, glycerin based face wash, and natural cures.

These methods will stop you from irritating your already broken out skin. Many people overmedicate their acne and it actually encourages more breakouts.

  2. go to the dermatologist. I have tried everything and only prescription drugs have really worked for me. They dry your skin out if you use too much. After you face gets used to it, the dryness is nearly gone totally. I swear by a product called Tazorac…ask for it. You can even use this medication atop of moisturizer to prevent dryness. Seek a professional.

  3. you might need to take more showers and unclog your poors or it might be dead skin cells building up and your not scrubbing enough don’t scrub really hard but try that and if that dosnt work I really think you should see a dermo

  4. I heard on CNN tree tea oil & witch hazel keeps skin clear.

  5. 1. avoid eating foods that can help your acne to grow
    2. drink plenty of water
    3. keep your skin in good hygiene
    4. touching/pushing your acne can make it worse, so avoid it

  6. Are you dealing with ordinary acne? I get bumps that don’t get puss, but they seem to be acne all the same.

I’ll paste my answer to a similar question.

For the ance, I usually drink a lot of water, first thing in the morning to cleanse out my body. I literally drink about 5 cups of water, until my belly gets uncomfortably full, or the taste becomes unbearable. I try to do that again during the day. Before bed, I drink about 3/4 cup of water [the approx. amount that my bladder can hold without feeling uncomfortable]. When I drink enough water, I then find that acne disappears. Before I tried this, I used to have acne bumps that would stay around for 6 months, and would really hurt my skin. If I just touched it gently, it would hurt as if I pierced it with a blunt needle. As you can imagine, I have a scar or 2 from the acne. I don’t know how the water helps, but it does. Maybe it just cleanses my body.

When I step out of the shower, I try to use my hands to push off as much of the water as possible and let as much of my body air dry. This seems strange, but the idea is that I don’t want an unclean towel touching my face. I found that even touching it with clean towel seemed to cause problems.

For face washing, I wash the waxy parts of my skin several times with soap/cleanser, but I only wash the non-waxy parts of my skin during the last wash. This prevents my skin from getting dried out.

How hot is the water that you use to shower?
How much soap/cleanser do you use?
Do you use your towel to dry your face?
