Has anyone ever used Accutane for acne? Does it really work and do you get worse before you get better?
It is supposed to be a "lasting" treatment, but I've heard a few people say it does not work? Your thoughts?

I know a family member that had severe acne during his teen years. He tried everything and to be honest it just had to run its course. I’m not sure of your age but if you are under 20 years old I would not fool with Accutane because your acne will eventually go away. I know this is not what you want to hear. But, the side effects of Accutane are much worse. There are studies done on this medication and it can cause liver damage, affect the reproductive system, make your endurance lower, like if you work out or play sports and are active you may feel a difference that could affect your performance. It’s an all around toxic medicine and if I was you I would not take it ever. Just follow a good regime of keeping your kind clean but don’t overdo it either as that can make it worse. Again, the sad truth is that during teenage years acne will run its course and alot of these medications and remedies are all a waste of money and sometimes actually make your acne worse. Good luck with everything.

no acne treatments are lasting thats how they keep people buying them its phsychological! the best thing you can do to keep acne under control is simply to wash your face with soap twice a day! avoid touching your face, change your pillow every other day and keep drinking plenty of water! if you keep to this you will notice a difference! and it lasts better than any medicated/acne soap will!!!

My friend used it had amazing results. It depends on the person, but make sure that you are aware of all the side effects before taking it. One of the most common is dry skin. I believe if you’re a woman, you have to have a monthly pregnancy test. Accutane causes birth defects, so any chance of pregnancy has to be closely monitored.

OMFG.
That stuff is CRAZY DANGEROUS.
Seriously.
My boy friend is on that stuff.
Yes, it works like a mo fo.
You can go in looking like a pizza face.
Then come out a COMPLETELY different person.
But there are a bunch of down sides.
You get dried up lips alllll of the time.
My boy friend uses chapstick at least 50 times a day-literally.
And your eyes get dry.
And the side effects are insane.
Like :
Suicide.
Thoughts of suicide.
Depression.
Illusions.
Thoughts of guilt.
And other things like that.
But it gets better, goes back to being bad, thennn, it clears up completely.

Accutane has had some really BAD reviews with side effects.
Ask for some Clyndamician. ( they have a topical and a pill)

i was previously on a 6 month course of accutane and have now been off it for 3 months. umm how do i put this… MIRACLE DRUG. saved my skin… its perfect and clear now. and NEVER gets oily like it used to (i used to be so self-conscious about the oilyness). yes, it really, really works. i had moderate/severe acne on my back mainly and a little bit my face, and its all totally clear now.
yeah my skin did get worse before it got better. the first month i totally broke out, but by the second month and into the third month it really started clearing up and got better from there. breaking out at first is totally normal while on the drug.
yes, accutane does include some very severe side effects, but most of these are RARE… just like with any drug or vaccine of course there will be that small percentage of people who get the worst of it. for me… it was dry skin and lips (everyone gets this its like a given, but i managed it pretty well by moisturizing twice daily and using aquaphor on my lips many times throughout the day–im addicted to aquaphor by the way best stuff ever), headaches every once in awhile, some minor joint pain/lower back pain, and now that im off the drug, mild hair loss (nothing i cant live with). all the side effects (except the hair loss, that just recently started and i know to be part of taking the drug) diminished since going off the drug and ALL were well worth it because my skin is perfect now. if you can survive 6 months of really dry skin and other minor side effects then you can live the rest of your life with perfect, clear skin.
3 of my friends have taken the drug before as well. one of them didnt really see much of a change in her skin (but it helped a little and didnt hurt with no side effects), one has perfectly clear skin now and didnt experience ANY side effects at all (i was jealous), and the other has clear skin now and had just minor side effects less than mine. my dad also took the drug previously for like 8 months (hes 60) and it worked wonders for him (he had severe, severe acne) with just severely dry skin and lips as a side effect (that has gone away now).
so, bottom line, i believe accutane to be well worth it. its the closest thing dermatologists have as a cure for acne. its just up to you to decide if its right for you.
