Accutane or Birth Control for acne?
These two things are my last hope. I've tried every other pill, cream, face wash, laser, facial peels, etc. etc. Please DO NOT suggest any other acne treatment/medication thanks. So for those of you have have tried one or both, which did you find to be more effective? Which had the least severe risks? Any other info is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Both medications mentioned have been successful in the treatment of acne. However, depending on your age, other medications, if you smoke, and other health issues you may have will determine which medicine will have the most benefit with the least risk. Accutane and the other medications that are isotretinoin have a considerable amount of downfalls. For one if you have not already researched this drug, i encourage you to look up the iPledge program. To be able to take Accutane and similar medicine you have to enroll in this program and use two types of birth control-reguardless of age or gender, remain abstinent during treatment, submit to monthly doctor visits and have blood drawn periodically. The pharmacy you choose will also have to be registered with this program and have to have your iPledge number every single time you fill the medication. This can be quite a hassle for most folks. The reason for this program is because even one dose can harm an unborn baby. You would most likely be prescribed a birth control tablet if you take Accutane anyway. Maybe you could try a birth control tablet first to see if this improves your acne, if it doesn’t then maybe consider isotretinoin–and hey then you’ll already have one of your forms of birth control taken care of for the iPledge.

Accutane is generally considered the best and last line therapy for severe acne, however it tends to cause severe birth defects so in order to be prescribed it you have to take part in a program called ‘iPLEDGE’ which will require your dermatologist to give you a pregnancy test every month before writing the prescription for that month, and you will need to agree to use birth control of some form as well (so you probably would be on hormonal birth control pills anyway)
